Mike Chappell, of the Indianapolis Star, reports there are no indications free-agent WR Marvin Harrison (Colts) is close to a deal with a team. "I'm not surprised," said analyst Charley Casserly. "When I watch him as a player and look at the package, he's not going to get any better at this point in his career. He's been injury-prone the last two years. He's missed time. That has to be a consideration when you're going to sign a guy."

Steve Wyche, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports Atlanta Falcons vice president/chief administrative officer Ray Anderson is a finalist, along with former Houston Texans general manager Charley Casserly, to become senior vice president of football operations and development for the NFL, according to a person familiar with the situation. The position was vacated when Art Shell left to coach the Oakland Raiders.

Rick Snider, of the Examiner, reports former NFL general manager Charley Casserly is enjoying his free time after resigning from the Houston Texans. Casserly is awaiting word on whether he'll become the NFL's vice president of football operations in New York in coming weeks. Washington, D.C. will be the Casserly's' eventual retirement home. A media job is always available for Casserly. However, Casserly is an NFL exec with little interest in life outside the league. "It's not over yet," he said of his career. "I still love the game and there are things I still want to do. There are a lot of things I like about the job."

Texans | Team gives Casserly a fond farewell

Ron Borges, of the Boston Globe, reports former Houston Texans general manager Charley Casserly's last day with the Texans was Wednesday, May 31, and he attended the team's OTAs daily until he left. On the final day, owner Bob McNair and new head coach Gary Kubiak asked Casserly to come to the practice field. When they brought him out, Kubiak told the players that none of them would be in Houston if not for Casserly. After receiving a strong ovation, Casserly was asked to address the team, something he said he'd never done in 30 years in the NFL.

K.C. Johnson, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears director of pro personnel Bobby DePaul is a rumored candidate to replace Houston Texans general manager Charley Casserly. A team official said the Texans have not contacted DePaul about the position or asked the Bears for permission to interview him, but Bears general manager Jerry Angelo is not expected to deny permission.

Rob Demovsky, of PackersNews.com, reports Green Bay Packers director of pro personnel Reggie McKenzie has emerged as a candidate to head up the Houston Texans football operations, according to the Houston Chronicle. The Texans are seeking a replacement for general manager Charley Casserly, who stepped down Wednesday, May 10. The Texans have not yet sought permission from the Packers to meet with McKenzie.

John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports former Houston Texans general manager Charley Casserly could have resigned from the team after the 2005 season, but wanted to help head coach Gary Kubiak repair the damage from a 2-14 season. Casserly said, "You leave either in December, or you leave in May after the draft. I didn't feel comfortable leaving at the end of a 2-14 season. I thought Gary was a tremendous hire. I wanted to go through free agency and the draft working with him. I enjoyed my time with him. I thought we had a productive offseason, and I think this team's headed in the right direction. I don't know that anybody in the league had a better offseason than we did." The team
