Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge said he told Miguel Olivo that he will not be catching as much as before because he wants Cs John Jaso and Jesus Montero to get starts behind the plate as well. Olivo could see some time as designated hitter against left-handed pitchers moving forward.

Seattle Mariners OF Mike Carp will make his first start since coming off the disabled list Thursday, May 3. C Jesus Montero started back-to-back games at catcher for the first time this year Wednesday, May 2, but C John Jaso will start Thursday.

Seattle Mariners Cs John Jaso and Jesus Montero are expected to split time behind the plate with C Miguel Olivo (groin) on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: This should speed up the time it takes Montero to earn C eligibility, if he hasn't already in your league.

Seattle Mariners skipper Eric Wedge mentioned that 3B Chone Figgins needs to start picking it up soon. "I don't know where they're coming from," Wedge said against Figgins' strikeouts. "We're still giving Figgins an opportunity, but he has to do it - simple as that," Wedge said. "I mean, if he does, we'll keep him in there. If not, we'll make a change." 2B Dustin Ackley is likely the backup plan at leadoff if Figgins continues to struggle. The team is likely to cut C Miguel Olivo, who is also struggling at the plate, more slack so they can have another veteran presence other than OF Ichiro Suzuki. The M's aren't ready to give C Jesus Montero the everyday catching role, either.
