Bob Glauber, of Newsday, reports New York Jets CB Lito Sheppard said he is happy with his new start with the Jets after his difficulties with the Philadelphia Eagles. "I'm happy to have a fresh start. I have a lot of football left in me, and I'm glad to have a fair opportunity to show that," Sheppard said.

Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Jets have given CB Lito Sheppard a four-year contract extension worth $27.2 million that will begin in 2010. However, the deal will only kick in if the Jets decide to pay a $10 million option bonus in March 2010. If Sheppard misses considerable time during the season, they would only have to trade a fifth-round draft choice to the Philadelphia Eagles. The conditional 2010 draft choice will be a second-round draft choice if Sheppard plays 85 percent of the season and receives the four-year extension.

Adam Schefter, of NFL.com, reports the Philadelphia Eagles are on the verge of completing a trade that will send CB Lito Sheppard to the New York Jets for a fifth-round draft choice in 2009 and a conditional 2010 draft choice. The conditional pick could be as high as a second-round pick or as low as a fourth. Sheppard will have a physical with the Jets Saturday, Feb. 28.
