The Milwaukee Brewers signed free-agent IF Edwin Maysonet (Astros) and C Shawn Riggans (Independent League) to minor league deals with invitations to spring training, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports. The team also signed free-agent P Jesus Sanchez (Phillies) and invited him to their early minor league camp.

The St. Petersburg Times' Marc Topkin reports that the Tampa Bay Rays have not yet finalized their plans for September call-ups, although the number of players promoted is not expected to exceed six. The players will include SP Wade Davis, OF Fernando Perez, a third catcher (either Michel Hernandez or Shawn Riggans), another IF (possibly Reid Brignac), and at least one reliever from the group of Jeff Bennett, Joe Nelson and Dale Thayer. OF Matt Joyce may also be a possibility.
