The Associated Press reports the Oakland Raiders have signed free agent FB Jermaine Williams, who was recently released by the Kansas City Chiefs. He spent some previous time with the Raiders before signing with Jacksonville for the 2000 season.

KcChiefs.com reports the shoulder injury to FB Tony Richardson doesn't appear to be as serious as originally thought and he could return to the lineup sooner than expected, according to coach Dick Vermeil. As of this moment, no operation is expected. The team does not expect him to play this week in Denver and he is listed as doubtful on the team's injury report. Backup FB Jermaine Williams will step in for Richardson in this game but Vermeil refused to offer any specifics as to his role versus Denver.

The Kansas City Star reports Kansas City Chiefs LB Mike Maslowski could see special-teams action if his knee allows him to be ready by Sunday. If Tony Richardson, who is "very doubtful" to play Sunday does not play, Mike Cloud could be called upon to spell RB Priest Holmes in spots. Jermaine Williams would take Richardson's place at fullback in the team's two-back sets.

The Kansas City Star reports the Kansas City Chiefs may play next week's game without FB Tony Richardson (shoulder strain). Richardson would be replaced by Jermaine Williams, whose offensive contributions have been mainly limited to blocking in short-yardage and goal-line situations. Also, coach Dick Vermeil made it sound as though rookie WR Marvin Minnis (concussion) would probably return for Sunday's game.

Updating an earlier story, WR Derrick Mayes was limited at both practice sessions because of dizziness. FB Jermaine Williams (dehydration) returned for the team's afternoon practice. DTs Dan Williams (foot), Terdell Sands (foot) and Thomas Washington (back) and S Brad Trout (head) did not practice.

He returned to the field in full pads but did not play. Rookie DT Terdell Sands did not dress in pads today. RB Jermaine Williams missed practice because of dehydration.

According to the Kansas City Star, the Kansas City Chiefs would like to sign four free agents. The four were all given tryouts at mini-camp this weekend. They are FB Jermaine Williams, OL Robert Hunt and Ian Allen and CB George McCullough. Williams has NFL experience with Oakland and McCullough with Tennessee. Hunt played in the XFL and Allen is an undrafted free agent from Purdue.

The team's official site reports by cutting five players earlier today, the Jacksonville Jaguars will save just over $9 million against their 2001 salary cap. DE Joel Smeenge would've been a $5 million hit this season; OC Quentin Neujahr $1.95 million; WR/KR Reggie Barlow $1.5 million; S Rayna Stewart $500,000; and OT Joe Chustz $160,000. FB Jermaine Williams tender offer would have cost the team $512,000. The team remains about $17 million over the salary cap. As of five p.m. today, there is nothing new to report on contract negotiations with QB Mark Brunell.

As expected the Jacksonville Jaguars began releasing players today to get under the league's salary cap, according to their official site. The first five players released were: DE Joel Smeenge, WR Reggie Barlow, OC Quentin Neujahr, OT Joe Chustz and S Rayna Stewart. The team also announced it will not exercise a tender offer to FB Jermaine Williams.
