Washington Nationals C Wilson Ramos (knee) left the game Saturday, May 12, against the Cincinnati Reds due to a non-contact knee injury. He was carried off the field by trainers, and he was unable to put any weight on the right knee. C Jesus Flores entered the game in Ramos' absence.

If Washington Nationals C Wilson Ramos (knee) is forced to the 15-day disabled list, the team might recall C Carlos Maldonado from Triple-A Syracuse to back up C Jesus Flores.

Washington Nationals C Jesus Flores went 2-for-4 in his first start Monday, April 9, and threw out a runner trying to steal second base. It's clear that Flores is completely healthy this year after battling a shoulder issue last year. "Just the way I feel, I can tell that I'm back. Everything's back. It feels stronger hitting. Strong throwing. I really feel good enough to do my job."

Washington Nationals C Jesus Flores, who is expected to be the backup catcher to C Wilson Ramos, thinks he could be a starting catcher. When asked if he was preparing to be the backup, Flores said: "Good question," Flores said. "Hard to answer. I don't feel like I'm that kind of catcher right now. I feel like I still have a lot of future. I'm still young for a catcher. We'll see. That's not my dream. But right now, I am where I am. I just need to do my job." He could attract interest on the trade market if he tears it up this spring. Flores hit .330 with eight home runs in 218 at-bats in the Venezuelan Winter League and said the strength in his shoulder has come back.

Updating a previous item, Washington Nationals C Jesus Flores signed a one-year deal to avoid arbitration. He is expected to serve as the backup to C Wilson Ramos. Financial terms weren't given.
