Jay Clemons, of DetroitLions.com, reports Detroit Lions QB Rick Mirer is content with his backup role and excited to tutor QBs Joey Harrington and Mike McMahon this season. "Really, I want to help the younger guys learn. I don't want to force it on to them, but I also know experience is priceless," said Mirer. "I try not to say a lot (at first), but I feel there's a lot of things I could give them a heads-up on…but (Harrington and McMahon are) good guys, they understand the system, and we've gotten along."

Updating previous reports, according to USAToday.com, the Detroit Lions have officially signed free agent QB Rick Mirer (Raiders) to a one-year contract. Financial terms were not available. The two sides had struck a deal last week but the signing was delayed until Mirer passed a physical evaluation.

Updating previous reports, according to Len Pasquarelli of ESPN.com, the Detroit Lions have scheduled a physical examination for free agent QB Rick Mirer (Raiders) on Thursday, April 1. The two sides have already reached an agreement in principal if Mirer is deemed fit to play.
