I know he is working as hard as he can already, just to figure out how we can get back on the right track." As for Haley, the owner said the offense functioned at a pretty high level and was hurt by the absence of QB Ben Roethlisberger due to injury.

"He knows when he's hearing my voice in his headset and giving him a call that I'm putting him in the best position for him to succeed," Haley said. "I have to trust him that when I make the call, he's going to make it work. At this point, it's been really good, and I expect it to continue."

Roethlisberger adopted some of former offensive coordinator Bruce Arians' terminology to call no-huddle plays in Week 3. Roethlisberger admits he talks with Arians on a weekly basis. "I really didn't think it would get blown up as much as it did, and I know some people are saying that I've been resistant to Todd," Roethlisberger said. "But it's one of those things that we went to Todd, and it's in the playbook now. It was simply a signal that I used with our receivers on two different occasions. One was on the fourth-and-1, we got the ball to Mike (Wallace). The other one was later on third down to Emmanuel (Sanders). We converted both plays. It worked out."
Wed, 29 Aug 2012 09:25:21 -0700
Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley believes WR Mike Wallace could be ready for Week 1 because of the nature of the position he plays. "You're talking about a guy who's a wide receiver, a pass-catcher," Haley said. "It's not a running back or someone who has to be in the action of the game. "(Roethlisberger) has shown a propensity to do that at a high level," Haley said of the no-huddle. '"Ideally, if you have a quarterback like Ben and what he's done, when he's in full control, that's a good situation to be in because he's right in the middle of it and seeing what's going on."

"It may be fair to say that when he started the discussions and Todd's name was on his original list, I don't think he expected that Todd was the guy he was going to wind up hiring. Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said he hopes new offensive coordinator Todd Haley does not drastically change the team's philosophy on offense. Roethlisberger feels players, particularly the young receiving corps, could have trouble adjusting to a new scheme. "It would probably be easy for him to do," Roethlisberger said about Haley possibly introducing a new offense to the Steelers. "I don't know if it would be easy for us to learn it. We're so young on offense and the most-talented room in this whole building is probably wide receiver, no disrespect to anyone else. And they're also really young. They're still the tip of the iceberg in this offense and they did as well as they did last year. And they're just getting to the point that 'OK, this makes sense to me.'"
