Cardinals | Bryan Anderson excelling

Tue, 20 Mar 2012 16:05:19 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Bryan Anderson made some mechanical adjustments to his swing by shortening his hack in order to get a more direct path to the ball this spring. He also focused on keeping his head still, and the results are showing; he's hitting .462 after two more hits Tuesday, March 20. "He walked in and it took about five days before I had almost every coach that's interested in the offensive side come up and say, 'Hey, he's made some adjustments,'" manager Mike Matheny said earlier this month. "He's stronger. The ball is jumping off his bat. It just sounds different. I think it's reassuring that he's done the right work over the winter."

Cardinals | Yadier Molina likely to be shut down

Thu, 23 Sep 2010 13:49:31 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina (knee) is likely to miss the rest of the season, according to MLB.com's Matthew Leach. No major issues were found in Molina's knee during an examination Thursday, Sept. 23, but the inflammation is significant enough for the team to shut him down. "There was no structural damage," general manager John Mozeliak said. "A little inflammation under the patella, so at this point we just plan on resting him. At this point he probably won't play (again this year). There is no reason to believe that Molina will need offseason surgery. Cs Matt Pagnozzi and Bryan Anderson will both see time behind the plate from here on out.

Cardinals | Youngsters in lineup Thursday

Thu, 23 Sep 2010 11:14:10 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals C Matt Pagnozzi, OF Nick Stavinoha, OF Joe Mather, SS Tyler Greene and IF Daniel Descalso were all in the starting lineup Thursday, Sept. 23, according to MLB.com's Matthew Leach. "Colby (Rasmus) is not playing today because he's playing tomorrow - he could use a day, I think," manager Tony La Russa said. "And I think when you get a game like today, it's a quick turnaround, fresh blood is good. So you get a new center fielder, a new shortstop and right fielder. I think they'll give a lot of energy." It appears that La Russa values Pagnozzi over C Bryan Anderson while C Yadier Molina (knee) is out. However, La Russa insists that he will mix and match with both Pagnozzi and Anderson. "Mix and match," La Russa said. "The last time Lohse pitched with (Anderson), he didn't have a good game. Today there's a left-hander. Over the weekend you have a left-hander and a right-hander, and you've got (Adam) Wainwright and (Chris Carpenter). So I have no problem catching Andy."
