Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan won't return to the team next season, a source close to the coach confirmed Thursday, Jan. 5. Also, cornerbacks coach Rod Woodson, linebackers coach Greg Biekert and safeties coach Kevin Ross will not have their contracts renewed.

According to a radio report Tuesday, Jan. 3, Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan was fired, along with linebackers coach Greg Biekert and secondary coaches Kevin Ross and Rod Woodson. However, head coach Hue Jackson refuted the report on a Sacramento radio show, saying he met with his assistants Tuesday, and only that a decision was coming sooner rather than later, "because that's only fair to the coaches."

Head coach Mike Tice said "we'll give him all the time he needs". Biekert's agent said that he is still about a month away from the decision.

Bill Williamson, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings LB E.J. Henderson will likely take same more time from starting LB Greg Biekert. The team likes his speed, as they have struggled to defend runs to the outside. The Vikings hope Henderson, who has seen some time in nickel packages, will eventually play in the nickel full time this season and take over for Biekert entirely next year. "They talked about E.J. playing more nickel, which is fine,'' said Biekert. "If they feel that's necessary, then it's necessary. I'm cool with it. I know I'm at the end of my career. I won't be playing in another five years.''

John Ryan reports for the Mercury News there will be quite a battle in training camp at linebacker for the Oakland Raiders. MLB Greg Biekert will be the starter when the team plays their 4-3 allignment. The outside spots will be a battle amongst Travian Smith, Eric Barton, Bobby Brooks, Bill Romanowski, Mike Jones and Gerald Dixon. The team wants more than last year's 9.5 sacks from their linebackers. "We're a little bit more versatile, and we're applying a little bit more power from that position," Coach Bill Callahan said Friday.

Gruden said he was on the "upside of questionable." DL Roderick Coleman (pectoral muscle) did not practice and is "very doubtful." WR Jerry Porter (shoulder) is improving but Gruden said he would be a game-day decision.
