Mon, 18 Sep 2006 21:19:28 -0700

RBs Wali Lundy, Ron Dayne and Samkon Gado accounted for 98 rushing yards during the Week 2 game. Head coach Gary Kubiak said, "I think we'll continue to play all three. We'll keep preparing all three. I think one of them will stand ahead of the others, that's just the way it tends to work out. I thought Wali (Lundy) did some good things, he did put the ball on the ground playing in a tough environment. It's a new step for him. Ronnie (Ron Dayne) did some good things, got a little tired, hasn't played in a while. Sam (Samkon Gado) came in and showed he's got some flash and has some big play ability."

"They're both going to play," head coach Gary Kubiak said of the ex-Giant/Bronco and ex-Packer. "We've got to see where they're at. Sam has a limited game plan compared to the rest of the team, but he's looked really good being here for just a couple days. And Ronnie has gotten better every day. I see them all playing in the game, unless one of them gets a hot hand." Lundy said he's not discouraged by his unproductive NFL debut.

Tue, 05 Sep 2006 18:41:47 -0700

Kristie Rieken, of the Associated Press, reports Houston Texans RB Ron Dayne is happy to be playing for Texans' head coach Gary Kubiak. Though the coach has said rookie RB Wali Lundy will start in the opener Sunday, Sept. 10, against Philadelphia, Dayne did take some snaps with the first team in practice Tuesday, Sept. 5. "Ronny is just what I knew he was," Kubiak said. "He jumped into the huddle today, made no mistakes and knows exactly what we're doing." At 5-foot-10 and 245 pounds, Dayne is also about 30 pounds heavier than Lundy and RB Vernand Morency, making him potentially valuable in short-yardage situations. Dayne said he's "almost there" in his recovery from a toe injury.

Texans | Dayne may become short-yardage and goaline back

Sun, 03 Sep 2006 19:42:34 -0700

John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans RB Ron Dayne, who weighs 245 pounds, is expected to be used in short-yardage and goaline situations with the Texans. Rookie RB Wali Lundy is expected to remain the starting running back. "He gives us a real bruiser," head coach Gary Kubiak said of Dayne. "He can pound the ball. He's got more size than our other two. Because we're familiar with him, he can step right into our offense on Tuesday (Sept. 5) and know exactly what we're doing. At this point that's a tremendous advantage for us."

Tue, 29 Aug 2006 19:58:45 -0700

The Associated Press reports Houston Texans RB Domanick Davis (knee) doesn't know when his injured left knee will be healthy enough for him to return to the field. He has been out for a month with a bone bruise that is causing soreness in his knee. He said it has been frustrating and surprising that the injury has kept him out this long. "It's getting to the point where it's just draining me," he said. "I'm tired of watching. I've been here and I've worked hard with everybody else and I can't be out there and help. It's just killing me watching." Texans head coach Gary Kubiak plans to meet with Davis, his agent and his doctors this week to discuss his injury. He wants to find out if Davis can play this season or if he needs to be placed on Injured Reserve. Davis will not be available for Houston's opener against Philadelphia and rookie RB Wali Lundy will start in his place.

Texans | Running backs need to improve on blocking

Sun, 20 Aug 2006 17:50:31 -0700

Ana Chavez, of HoustonTexans.com, reports Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said the team's running backs need to improve on their blocking. RB Wali Lundy missed an assignment Saturday, Aug. 19, that resulted in QB David Carr getting sacked. Kubiak said, "Formation-wise we had him (Lundy) in a tough position to block that edge blitz. I wouldn't say he missed his assignment. He just didn't do a very good job off the edge; on David's sack he could have done a better job. But David could have gotten the ball out quicker, we could have gotten our eyes around the route, there were a lot of cutters there. It all goes together but that's something that our backs will have to do better."
