The San Francisco Chronicle reports the Oakland Raiders have released LB Elijah Alexander. He became expendable last week when the Raiders signed LB Bill Romanowski.

ESPN's John Clayton reports Oakland Raiders OLT Barry Sims (foot) will be replaced by Matt Stinchcomb in the starting lineup this weekend. LB Elijah Alexander (knee) is expected to return to the field. CB Charles Woodson (turf toe) plans to try and play, and veteran James Hasty (toe) will be his backup.

According to ESPN's John Clayton, Oakland Raiders CB Charles Woodson (turf toe) wasn't able to practice again on Friday and continued to sport a walking boot to protect his injured toe. LB William Thomas (hamstring) will be a game time decision this weekend. LB Elijah Alexander (knee) isn't expected to play again. He'll be replaced by Travian Smith. FS Anthony Dorsett (knee) practiced on Friday and should be available for this weekend's game.

Jonathan Okanes reports for the Contra Costa Times Oakland Raiders OLB William Thomas came down with a tight hamstring during Thursday morning's workout and was held out of the afternoon session. He is now listed as questionable for Sunday's game. If Thomas is unable to play, Eric Barton would start in his place. Fellow OLB Elijah Alexander (knee) is "extremely questionable" for Sunday, coach Jon Gruden said.

The Associated Press reports Oakland Raiders backup S Eric Johnson fractured his left leg last night and he will miss at least eight weeks after undergoing surgery. FB Jon Ritchie has a groin strain, LB Elijah Alexander injured his left knee, RB Randy Jordan and CB Charles Woodson sustained turf toes, and DE Tony Bryant has a left hip bruise. ''This is about as injury-riddled as I've seen this team,'' said coach Jon Gruden. Starting S Anthony Dorsett (sprained left knee) will undergo an MRI today. Starting G Steve Wisniewski sprained his left ankle, but he's likely to start on Sunday. Woodson was fitted for a boot and his practice time will be limited this week.

Alexander still is listed as doubtful while Collins and Wheatley remain questionable. LT Barry Sims (foot) also is questionable, but he did practice.

Travian Smith is expected to get the start in his place. RG Mo Collins (leg), LT Barry Sims (foot) and RB Tyrone Wheatley (knee) also did not practice. "It appears those guys are making steady progress," coach Jon Gruden said. RT Lincoln Kennedy (shoulder) and G Frank Middleton (knee) practiced, but remain questionable. Middleton said he plans to start if Collins is OUT.

Dave Williams reports for the Press Democrat Oakland Raiders LB Elijah Alexander left yesterday's game in the third quarter because of an injury to his right knee. Coach Jon Gruden said that Alexander aggravated a medial collateral ligament and that the team is concerned. He's scheduled for an MRI today or tomorrow. LB Travian Smith filled in for Alexander.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports Oakland Raiders RB Tyrone Wheatley missed practice again Thursday, and coach Jon Gruden said although he was running a little better, "he still shows signs of gimpiness." Because of the Wheatley injury, RB Terry Kirby may be on the active roster for the first time this season. LB Elijah Alexander has been added to the injury list for an ankle he sprained on Wednesday. "He is questionable," said Gruden. Travian Smith would be the likely replacement for Alexander, who has started the first five games at strong-side linebacker.

The Associated Press reports Oakland Raiders LB Elijah Alexander was fined one game paycheck by the NFL for his hit on Seattle Seahawks QB Trent Dilfer last weekend. The league fined Alexander for "using the helmet to butt, spear or ram an opponent violently" and hitting a player in a "defenseless posture."

The Associated Press reports Oakland Raiders LB Elijah Alexander was ejected from today's Oakland Raiders game against Seattle after he made a helmet-to-helmet hit on Seahawks QB Trent Dilfer. Dilfer, who had just entered the game, lay motionless and face down on the field for several moments. After the play was over, Alexander removed his helmet on the field while protesting the call, then gave high-fives to several Oakland fans as he was escorted to the locker room.

Dave Williams reports for the Press Democrat if Oakland Raiders MLB Greg Biekert (hamstring) can't play on Sunday, his most likely replacement is LB Bobby Brooks. Coach Jon Gruden said another option is moving Elijah Alexander from the strong side to the middle with either Eric Barton or Travian Smith filling in outside. Alexander has limited experience at the position.

The Contra Costa Times's Steve Corkran reports the Oakland Raiders made some last minute lineup changes on Saturday night. Travian Smith started at strong-side LB in place of Elijah Alexander, who did not make the trip to Arizona for an undisclosed reason. G Frank Middleton started for Steve Wisniewski, who is still trying to get into game shape. Wisniewski was held out as a precautionary measure, according to coach Jon Gruden. Roderick Coleman replaced Darrell Russell in the starting lineup at defensive tackle, as expected. Russell is not expected to play with the first or second team defenses during the remaining pre-season games because of his suspension. He did start the second half of the game.

The Bergen Record reports the New York Giants also worked out LBs Elijah Alexander, Steve Morrison and Terry Irving. With backup LBs Scott Galyon and Pete Monty coming off of surgery, the team is meeting with many LBs for backup purposes. Their primary interest remains in LB Dixon Edwards.
