Yankees | Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller strong

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 09:57:00 -0700

New York Yankees RPs Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller have yet to allow a run in 20 2/3 combined innings, and the Yankees' bullpen ERA is 1.77 in 71 innings. Betances, after a rough spring training in which his velocity was down, hasn't given up a hit in his last four outings over six innings, and he's looking like his All-Star self from 2014. Betances and Miller both have 17 strikeouts each. Miller has given up three hits in 9 1/3 scoreless innings, and he broke former RP Mariano Rivera's record with eight saves in the first 20 games.

Fantasy Tip: Even though Betances owners would prefer it if he were seeing save chances, they can't really complain about his bounceback after a bad spring. Miller owners are reaping the benefits, but Betances should remain owned in all leagues.

Yankees | Andrew Miller not named closer

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 14:36:06 -0700

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller has yet to be named as the team's closer by manager Joe Girardi.

Fantasy Tip: Miller had a five-out save last night against the Baltimore Orioles, and he's clearly in the lead for save chances over Dellin Betances, who had a rough spring and has carried it over into the regular season. Both Yanks relievers should be owned in all fantasy leagues.

Yankees | Andrew Miller earns another save

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 13:06:50 -0700

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller picked up his second save in as many chances Monday, April 13, when he recorded the final five outs in a 6-5 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Miller and Dellin Betances have been going back and forth for save opportunities. Betances has struggled with his command a little bit, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi has not committed either way. Keep an eye on how this situation works out.

Yankees | Yanks to go with matchups in ninth

Fri, 03 Apr 2015 11:48:36 -0700

New York Yankees RPs Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller will open the year sharing the closer's role, according to Joe Girardi, and the Yankees are planning to alternate the two relievers in the ninth inning depending on who the opposing team is sending to the plate. "My thought has been more like with a power lefty who strikes out a lot of guys and a power righty, the lineups just might match up where one day he's the eighth-inning guy and then one day he's the ninth-inning guy a little bit better," Girardi said. Both Betances and Miller didn't excel this spring, and Betances' fastball velocity was down in camp. Each reliever has just one career save.

Fantasy Tip: Those who handcuffed Betances and Miller to each other are rejoicing in the streets to start the 2015 season. Betances owners should be mildly concerned with his velocity dip and poor spring training. If it bleeds into April, though, Miller may have the leg up on the permanent closer role if Girardi decides to go that route.

Yankees | Closer committee official for Yankees

Fri, 03 Apr 2015 09:52:59 -0700

New York Yankees RPs Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller will be part of a committee at closer as manager Joe Girardi announced Friday, April 3, the team will not anoint one pitcher as closer.

Fantasy Tip: Miller needs to be owned in all formats if he went undrafted. Betances struggled all spring, and his velocity has been down. Neither have much experience in the role, but Miller may be in the driver's seat.

Yankees | Two could share Yanks' save chances

Fri, 03 Apr 2015 08:02:04 -0700

New York Yankees RPs Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller could share the save opportunities based on matchups as manager Joe Girardi is hesitant to name a set closer.

Fantasy Tip: Betances has had a rough spring, and his velocity is down. He had a heavy workload last year, and for good reason, he was lights-out. Miller could still be floating on waiver wires and needs to be added in most formats.

Yankees | Yanks not naming closer?

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 15:56:43 -0700

New York Yankees RPs Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller don't seem too concerned with who will be named a closer in 2015, and manager Joe Girardi isn't worried about naming a ninth-inning guy before opening day. Betances has been considered the favorite this offseason. Girardi plans to use both of them in the late innings, and both relievers said they'll be ready when the phone rings.

Fantasy Tip: Betances was one of the most dominating relievers not in a closing role in 2014, leading many to believe he'll be the guy for the Yanks in the ninth this year. However, Miller was just as dominant in his own right as a lefty specialist, mainly. This could wind up being a closer-by-committee based on matchups in the ninth. Both pitchers are worth drafting for saves in mixed leagues, but be careful not to overvalue Betances with the closing gig in the Bronx cloudy.

Yankees | Dellin Betances with closer edge?

Fri, 13 Feb 2015 10:32:37 -0800

New York Yankees RPs Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller will enter spring training with neither having the closer job locked down. The Yankees don't feel like they need to have a choice right now, but manager Joe Girardi would like to have a decision by the end of spring training. MLB.com's Bryan Hoch's guess is that Betances will win the job, with Miller serving as the eighth-inning setup man.

Yankees | Yankees want closer decided by spring training

Tue, 03 Feb 2015 12:35:11 -0800

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller and RP Dellin Betances will enter spring training with neither in the closing role, but manager Joe Girardi wants a closer decided by the end of spring training. "I think guys like to know their roles, so I think if we can iron it out, I think it would be a good thing to do," said Girardi.

Astros | Houston offered Andrew Miller more money

Sat, 06 Dec 2014 10:57:42 -0800

The Houston Astros reportedly made a four-year, $40 million contract offer to RP Andrew Miller before he signed with a four-year deal with the New York Yankees worth $36 million, according to sources. The Astros could end up redirecting that money toward free-agent RP David Robertson (Yankees) or sign free-agent RPs Sergio Romo (Giants) and Luke Gregerson (Athletics) for that amount.
