Yankees | Closer role wide open for Yankees

Tue, 29 Dec 2015 11:04:33 -0800

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller was told by general manager Brian Cashman the organization plans to keep Miller, RP Aroldis Chapman and RP Dellin Betances, and the closer role will be determined at a later date.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman faces a likely suspension to start the season, so he is likely out of the closer competition initially, and until there is an official announcement of who will pitch in the ninth inning it is difficult to project their respective fantasy values firmly. All three will return exceptional ratios with plenty of tallies in the strikeout column, so with the potential for saves added to the mix, there is a lot to like about all three after the top-tier closers come off the board. Stay tuned for additional updates.

Yankees | New York open to dealing Andrew Miller?

Mon, 28 Dec 2015 14:31:13 -0800

New York Yankees RPs Andrew Miller, Aroldis Chapman and Dellin Betances are expected to form a "three-headed monster" out of the bullpen, according to general manager Brian Cashman. However, Cashman noted the organization is open to trading Miller.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman has a potential suspension looming, so there will likely be one fewer "head" in the mix to open the season, and exactly how the usage is split up will significantly impact the value of each reliever. Until the ninth-inning arm is officially announced, it is difficult to project value for each. However, as it stands, the upside of saves along with their expected low ratios and high strikeout totals makes Miller, Chapman and Betances viable grabs after the elite closers are taken in drafts.

Yankees | Bullpen will have different look for Yankees

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 13:22:14 -0800

New York Yankees RPs Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances will pitch the ninth and eighth innings, respectively, next season, according to manager Joe Girardi. RPs James Pazos and Jacob Lindgren are candidates to fill the seventh-inning role, according to Girardi and general manager Brian Cashman.

Fantasy Tip: The Yankees traded relievers Adam Warren to the Chicago Cubs, and Justin Wilson to the Detroit Tigers, so there is an opening in the bullpen to help transition from the starter to the powerhouse one-two punch in the eighth and ninth innings. Miller is an elite closer entering the 2016 season, and Betances pitches in enough high-leverage situations to warrant a roster spot in the majority of seasonal leagues, and both strikeout batters at a high-end rate. Pazos and Lindgren are not options in yearly formats at this pint.

Dodgers | LA moving on from Andrew Miller?

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 11:42:55 -0800

The Los Angeles Dodgers' potential deal for New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller has no legs, according to sources. The Yankees are looking for a good starting pitcher in a package for Miller.

Fantasy Tip: Miller's demand has gone up with the news surrounding Aroldis Chapman, but it remains to be seen if the Yanks will actually deal him. There's no guarantee that Miller will be in a closing role again with another team if he's traded, but he has plenty of value if he remains in New York and is tabbed as the closer once again.

Dodgers | LAD moves on from Aroldis Chapman

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 06:06:21 -0800

Cincinnati Reds RP Aroldis Chapman's prospective deal to the Los Angeles Dodgers appears to be dead as the Dodgers are focusing on New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller.

Fantasy Tip: Kenley Jansen's value returns to borderline elite level with the Chapman deal looking grim.

Yankees | Andrew Miller still available

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 09:59:13 -0800

The Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers are discussing New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller. The situation surrounding Cincinnati Reds RP Aroldis Chapman could benefit the Yankees with Miller.

Fantasy Tip: Miller was very successful as the Yanks closer last year, but he's somewhat expendable with Dellin Betances just as capable of doing the job as Miller in the Bronx. Miller would certainly close in Houston if he went there, but don't be so sure about that if he were to go to the Dodgers with Kenlen Jansen in the picture. Stay tuned.

Astros | HOU serious about acquiring closer

Sat, 21 Nov 2015 12:18:26 -0800

The Houston Astros have been described as being "hell-bent to get a closer," according to teams that have had discussions with them this offseason. They have reportedly expressed interest in Cincinnati Reds CL Aroldis Chapman, New York Yankees CL Andrew Miller, Philadelphia Phillies CL Ken Giles and Tampa Bay Rays CL Brad Boxberger, in addition to considering several free-agent options.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be bad news for incumbent Astros CL Luke Gregerson, who would slide back into an eighth-inning role if Houston acquires a closer. Gregerson went 7-3 with a 3.10 ERA and 31 saves in 64 appearances last season but ranked 24th in strikeout ratio among the 33 MLB relievers who saved at least 15 games in 2015, with 8.7 strikeouts per nine innings.

Yankees | NY willing to deal Andrew Miller

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 09:45:11 -0800

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller is available on the trade market this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: With Dellin Betances a fine closing option for the Yankees, Miller could be expendable. Miller had a fine year closing out games for the Yanks, but a trade to another club wouldn't necessarily ensure that he'd keep the same job. Betances would receive a big bump in value if Miller leaves the Bronx.

Yankees | Andrew Miller honored

Wed, 28 Oct 2015 17:25:33 -0700

New York Yankees CL Andrew Miller has been named the 2015 winner of the Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year Award.

Fantasy Tip: Miller went 3-2 with a 2.04 ERA in 60 regular-season games, successfully converting 36 of 38 save opportunities. He walked 20 and struck out 100 batters over 61 2/3 innings. Miller should be one of the first relievers selected in fantasy baseball drafts next season.

Yankees | Andrew Miller earns save Friday

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 19:50:53 -0700

New York Yankees RP Andrew Miller earned his 26th save of the season against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, Aug. 14. He allowed one hit and one walk over one scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: This game marked the first time in three outings where Miller didn't give up at least one run. He has a 4.50 ERA through six appearances this month but does not appear to be in danger of losing the closer's job.
