We're making progress with the delivery," said Jim Fleming, the Marlins vice president of player development and scouting. "We wanted two things out there: to make the delivery a bit more consistent, and also to give him some extra innings. On both fronts, that's working."

The initial reaction from the team is that Miller's injury is not serious and he is expected to be out for a week or two. Miller allowed four innings in just one inning pitched Wednesday.

Juan C. Rodriguez, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, reports Florida Marlins SP Andrew Miller held left-handed hitters to a .226 average last year but lefties are hitting .308 against him this year. Also, his batting average against with runners in scoring position and two outs has climbed from .283 to .342. Pitching coach Mark Wiley said Miller has sacrificed some deception when he changed his delivery to a more direct route to the plate. He has no consistency with his breaking ball and has been leaning on his fastball, which shows in his strikeout numbers. Last year, 30.4 percent of the 292 batters he retired were via the strikeout. That number has dropped to 26.3 percent (55-of-209) this year.
