Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears tight ends coach Rob Boras said rookie TE Tim Day is still learning the system and trying to catch up after missing most of the organized team activities because his college class was still in session. "His head is just spinning," said Boras. "Hopefully by the 10th training camp practice he's caught up mentally, which will allow him to play fast. Obviously we're looking for somebody who can do both things well as far as run blocking and pass receiving. But if he can show that he can do one thing exceptionally well-better than everyone else-he's going to have a great opportunity to make this team."

Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears rookie TE Tim Day rejoined the team Wednesday, June 14, after completing his college exams. Day remained on the field with tight ends coach Rob Boras for about 20 minutes following Wednesday's practice to run routes and catch passes. "I didn't really feel like I was a step behind (in practice)," said Day. "I just felt like I didn't know as much as (teammates) did knowledge-wise. I still feel confident. I don't feel nervous."

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears tight ends coach Ron Boras would like to see his tight ends catch the ball more, but he knows their blocking is a key part of the team's rushing success. ''We were the fifth-best rushing offense in the league last year,'' he said. ''Hopefully, the tight ends helped contribute to that a little bit. There is something there. Now, obviously everyone looks at stats and we need to improve the pass-game part of it and that's what we're striving for this offseason." While Boras surely would have loved it if a high draft pick would have been used on a tight end, he pointed out the Bears are fortunate to have two players who were at the NFL Combine, rookie TEs Tim Day and Cooper Wallace. As far as his group as a whole, he hasn't set any goals yet. Brainstorming aloud, Boras mentioned 60 total catches would be nice.

During his NFL Combine interview, Oregon TE Tim Day measured a height of 6-3 1/2 and a weight of 256 pounds. His agent is Michael Hoffman from Premier Sports. He claims teams have talked about using him as a move guy and an on-the-line guy, like an H-back or fullback. He was able to perform 24 reps on the bench at the Combine.
