Ernie Palladino, of The Journal News, reports the Detroit Lions have agreed to a contract with undrafted rookie free agent FB Matt Bernstein (Wisconsin). "I'm excited," Bernstein said. "I'm great. I could have got drafted in the seventh round, but instead I got to choose where I go."

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Wisconsin FB Matt Bernstein measured a height of 6-0 1/2 and a weight of 260 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash with times of 4.80 seconds and 4.90 seconds while finishing the short shuttle in 4.27 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.25 seconds. He measured a 33 1/2-inch vertical jump and an 8-foot-10 broad jump while completing 25 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

Jeff Potrykus, of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, reports Wisconsin FB Matt Bernstein (sports hernia) took part in his Pro Day Wednesday, March 8. Bernstein missed Wisconsin's final nine games of the 2005 season with an inoperable sports hernia. He is not sure when he will be drafted, or if he will be drafted at all. Bernstein ran a 4.8 in the 40-yard dash and performed 25 repetitions in the bench press.

Tom Silverstein and Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, report Wisconsin FB Matt Bernstein failed to distinguish himself in his 40-yard dash times at the NFL Combine. Bernstein (6-3 1/2, 260) ran 4.91 and then 4.95 on one watch. Indianapolis Colts assistant general manager Dom Anile had him at 4.85. "I think he's more of a tight end," Anile said. "He caught the ball well and competed hard. We loved our interview with him last night. He's a great kid."
