Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera agrees to terms

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 19:07:13 -0800

The New York Mets have agreed to terms with free-agent SS Asdrubal Cabrera (Rays) on a two-year deal worth $18.5 million, with a team option for a third year.

Fantasy Tip: In 143 games for Tampa Bay last season, Cabrera hit .265 with 28 doubles, 15 home runs and 58 RBIs, including a .328 mark after the All-Star break. Despite the power-average potential, he should not be considered a starting shortstop outside of NL-only fantasy baseball leagues.

Angels | LAA may be interested in Asdrubal Cabrera

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 17:57:22 -0800

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim reportedly have interest in free-agent SS Asdrubal Cabrera (Rays).

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera batted .265 with 28 doubles, 15 home runs and 58 RBIs in 143 regular-season games, including a .328 mark after the All-Star break. The Halos have Erick Aybar under contract for another season, so it's possible that Cabrera could receive playing time at second base if signed. He should be of interest to fantasy owners in single-universe and deep mixed leagues.

Rays | No offers extended to three Tampa hitters

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 15:12:35 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera, C John Jaso and OF Grady Sizemore were not extended qualifying offers from the team.

Fantasy Tip: Without catcher eligibility, Jaso's fantasy value plummets in all mixed leagues, and Sizemore is nothing more than an only-league option. Cabrera is likely to join his fourth team in three seasons, and while there is power-average potential, Cabrera doesn't project as a starting shortstop in the majority of fantasy leagues for the 2016 season.

Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera not expected to return

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 09:04:59 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays impending free-agent SS Asdrubal Cabrera is not expected to return to the team after Tampa Bay traded for SS Brad Miller.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera managed to hit 15 home runs in 143 games with the Rays, but it's hard to see him finding a job as anything more than a utility middle infielder moving forward. He's strictly an AL-only commodity in 2016.

Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera sitting against Miami

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 12:04:40 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Oct. 1. SS Tim Beckham is starting at shortstop and batting seventh against Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Cabrera ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) in all fantasy formats Thursday. Beckham ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is an ill-advised start at FantasyScore, too. Fernandez ($9,100, 18.2% of cap) presents a daunting matchup, and Beckham owns an underwhelming .216/.293/.420 slash line against right-handed hurlers this season.

Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera sitting again

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 07:53:46 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera is not in the starting lineup Sunday, Sept. 20. SS Tim Beckham is starting at shortstop and batting ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: After missing three games, Cabrera ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) returned to the starting lineup Saturday, Sept. 19. It make sense to see him sitting a day game following a night game, but he may also see a fewer at-bats down the stretch, especially if the knee injury lingers. Beckham ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is a boom-or-bust fantasy option, and he shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a risky flier at FantasyScore Sunday.

Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera returns to lineup

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 11:46:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) is back in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen Saturday, Sept. 19, batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is just 1-for-11 over the past week and has one hit in 13 career at-bats against Chen. He should be avoided today in FantasyScore.

Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera out again vs. Orioles

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 12:40:03 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) is not in the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 18. SS Tim Beckham is starting at shortstop and batting ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Tyler Wilson Friday.

Fantasy Tip: This is the third consecutive game Cabrera ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) will miss, and there is no clear timeline on when he'll return to the lineup. It isn't out of the question to drop him for immediate help in seasonal formats. Beckham ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has some pop (.462 slugging percentage) but only sports a .697 OPS against right-handed hurlers. He is nothing more than a dice roll at FantasyScore Friday.

Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera sitting vs. Baltimore

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 12:06:42 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Sept. 17. SS Tim Beckham is starting at shortstop and batting seventh against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) hopes to return from the injury this year, but it isn't out of the question for seasonal owners to cut bait for immediate help. Beckham ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) offers power upside with a .513 slugging percentage since the All-Star break, especially with Tillman ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) sporting a 7.97 ERA over his past seven starts. Still, Beckham is nothing more than a flier at FantasyScore Thursday.

Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera expects to return

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 12:53:00 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) expects to return this year after straining his left knee Tuesday, Sept. 15. Cabrera said he "felt a pop" in his knee and was concerned it was worse.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) should miss at least several days and possibly much more depending on how he heals. Nick Franklin ($3,100, 6.2% of cap), who is starting tonight at shortstop, and Tim Beckham ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) figure to fill in in the meantime. Both infielders are nothing more than deeper sleepers in daily games, though.
