Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera taking day off

Thu, 21 May 2015 11:25:30 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 21. SS Nick Franklin is starting at shortstop and is hitting eighth in the batting order against Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez.

Fantasy Tip: Franklin ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) should be ignored at FantasyScore.

Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera reaches milestone

Wed, 13 May 2015 22:02:18 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera went 1-for-2 with a double, run scored, walk and RBI Wedneday, May 14, against the New York Yankees, posting the 1,000th hit of his career.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the big hit Wednesday, he is still hitting just .214 on the season. Avoid him in FantasyScore at $3,000 (or 6.0% of cap) until he starts to hit with some consistency.

Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera resting Thursday

Thu, 07 May 2015 12:14:03 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 7. SS Tim Beckham is starting at shortstop and hitting seventh in the batting order against Texas Rangers SP Nick Martinez, while 2B Jake Elmore draws the start at second base.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) makes much more sense as a low-end sleeper start at second base at FantasyScore than Elmore ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) does. Elmore only has seven at-bats this season.

Rays | Tampa shakes up lineup

Mon, 04 May 2015 15:41:33 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera, who is hitless in his last 14 at-bats, was dropped from third to seventh in the batting order Monday, May 4. OF David DeJesus, who is 0-for-17 lately, was dropped to fifth in the lineup. 1B James Loney has moved to the third spot.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) and DeJesus ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) should be looked at as weaker FantasyScore plays tonight, even against a right-handed pitcher. Loney ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is a midrange first base play tonight while seeing a bump into the heart of the batting order.

Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera on the bench

Sun, 03 May 2015 08:36:06 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 3.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return soon. Tim Beckham ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) will be starting at shortstop but may not be a great option on FantasyScore.

Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera on the bench

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 15:23:52 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera is sitting out of the starting lineup Tuesday, April 21. SS Tim Beckham is starting at the 6 and hitting sixth in the batting order against Boston Red Sox SP Wade Miley.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has two home runs on the young season but is hitting .267 (8-for-30). Both of his major league dingers have come off lefties, though, so the matchup is right if you feel like gambling and saving money with Beckham at FantasyScore.

Rays | Asdrubal Cabrera to be starting SS

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 05:15:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera will be the everyday shortstop for the Rays, according to team officials. There was talk that diminished range could opt the team to move him to second base, but he played well enough this spring to stay at short.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($3,700; 7.4% of your cap) is modestly priced and will be a matchup play on FantasyScore.

Rays | Middle infield roles are up in the air

Tue, 17 Feb 2015 16:00:45 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera is expected to be an everyday player, according to Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune. Cabrera has experience at both second base and shortstop, and how adept Rays SS Nick Franklin proves to be playing shortstop could determine which position Cabrera fills. Rays 2B Logan Forsythe could platoon, facing left-handed pitchers, at second base with Franklin while also backing up Rays 1B James Loney and Rays 3B Evan Longoria.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera is a low-end starter at second base or shortstop -- a better fit at middle infield -- in fantasy leagues. Franklin is a late-round flier who could prove capable of starting at the middle infield spot on fantasy teams very early in the season.
