Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Bob Babich coached from the coaching booth during the team's Week 10 game. "I just wanted to get a different perspective on the game and thought it worked out really well and enjoyed it," said Babich. "From this point on, it looks like I'll be up there. You're able to sit down and watch the game. In between series you're able to reflect on the previous series and make sure that things get taken care of. I thought it worked out really good."

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears newly promoted defensive coordinator Bob Babich expressed his desire to have the team's linebackers contribute more to the pass rush next season. ''It was a concern of ours,'' Babich said on the lack of sacks. ''And Brian (Urlacher), the previous years, has had sacks. As we evaluate the season, we're going to try to figure out whether it was scheme, technique -- whatever it was, we need to get all linebackers involved in sacks.''

Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith discussed the departure of former defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, who was not offered a contract extension after serving three seasons with the team. "I really appreciate the job Ron did for us for three years and I'm excited about his future going in a different direction," head coach Lovie Smith said. "But it's my job to put us in the best situation to move forward and I think this will give both of us a chance to go in the direction we'd like to. Ron had a contract. I don't see it as a firing or anything like that. His contract expired and he wants to go in one direction and I'd like to go in one, no more than that." As reported, the Bears are expected to promote linebackers coach and assistant head coach Bob Babich to defensive coordinator this year.

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Chicago Bears have opted not to renew the contract of defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, leaving one of the top defensive minds in the game without a job. The team wanted to pursue a long-term plan for the position due to Rivera's candidacy for numerous head coaching positions and head coach Lovie Smith felt the need to move in a different direction sooner rather than later. Smith will likely promote linebackers coach Bob Babich to the newly-vacated defensive coordinator position.

Sean Jensen, of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, reports Chicago Bears linebackers coach and assistant head coach Bob Babich is not interested in the defensive coordinator vacancy with the Minnesota Vikings this year. "I like what I'm doing," said Babich. "I do a lot of things here. I love coaching the players I coach." Babich admitted he would like to become a defensive coordinator in the right situation someday. "But it would have to be a situation I feel very comfortable with for me to leave the Bears. That hasn't even crossed my mind," Babich said. "I could care less about the Minnesota Vikings job."
