Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said he expects QB Brandon Weeden to come in and hopefully win the starting quarterback job immediately. Shurmur added that the Browns are "really impressed with what we saw with Weeden." He also dismissed a report that the Browns were shopping QB Colt McCoy on the second day of the NFL Draft, but didn't rule out moving him in the near future. "We've drafted a quarterback to come in and compete with him - at this point - and that's where it's at," Shurmur said.

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur didn't sound particularly enthusiastic with the long-term health of RB Montario Hardesty, who has missed much of the past two seasons with leg injuries. As a result, look for the team to seek a featured back in the NFL Draft - quite possibly Alabama RB Trent Richardson with the fourth overall pick.

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur was surprised to learn the team is 0-9 in the coin toss this season. The team that wins the toss wins the game roughly 52 percent of the time. "Really? Wow, I didn't think of that," Shurmur joked. "I probably should know that. 0-9. Well, we better win the coin toss. We'll have a meeting about the coin toss."

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said Wednesday, Oct. 26, that RB Peyton Hillis (hamstring) will start in Week 8 against the San Francisco 49ers if healthy. "He is our starting halfback. If he is healthy, he is going to start this game," Shurmur said. The coach said RB Montario Hardesty earned more playing time after posting career highs with 33 carries and 95 yards in Week 7 with Hillis inactive.

Browns | Alex Mack fine after appendectomy

Updating a previous injury, Cleveland Browns C Alex Mack (appendix) had an appendectomy Monday, Oct. 3, and everything well well, according to head coach Pat Shurmur. If Mack cannot play in Week 6 after the bye, either OG John Greco or C Steve Vallos would likely replace him. OG Shaun Lauvao has also practiced at center, but he is likely to remain at right guard.
