The Associated Press reports former NFL Player Association presidents Troy Vincent and Trace Armstrong as well as lawyer DeMaurice Smith are the three finalists for the vacant NFLPA executive director position, according to a source.

The Associated Press reports the NFL Players Association has narrowed its list to five candidates to succeed the late Gene Upshaw as executive director. NFLPA presidents Troy Vincent and Trace Armstrong, former Chicago Bears OT Jim Covert, former NFL OG Ben Utt and attorney DeMaurice Smith are all candidates to take the job.

Buffalo Bills CB Troy Vincent has been elected president of the NFL Players Association, reports Len Pasquarelli of ESPN.com. Vincent replaces free agent DL Trace Armstrong, who had been union's leader for the previous eight years. Armstrong opted not to run for another term.

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports Oakland Raiders DE Trace Armstrong (shoulder) will likely retire after the end of the season following an injury-plagued tenure with the Raiders. "These three years have been the toughest of my career," Armstrong said. "I've never experienced anything like this. I'm tired of it. The biggest thing for me is I feel that I let this organization down. They brought me out here to do something, and I haven't been able to do it for them."

Oakland Raiders DE Trace Armstrong (shoulder) injured his shoulder during the Sunday, Nov. 16, game against the Minnesota Vikings. Armstrong, who watched the second half in street clothes, said he suffered a shoulder "sublux" and that it "didn't look good." He underwent and MRI on Monday, Nov. 17, but the results were not yet available.

Steve Corkran, of the Contra Costa Times, reports Oakland Raiders DE Trace Armstrong (shoulder) suffered an injury to his left shoulder in Sunday's, Nov. 16, game against the Minnesota Vikings and was unable to return to the game. "It doesn't look good," Armstrong said. "It's what they call a subluxation, similar to what Rich (QB Rich Gannon) has." There is a good chance Armstrong could be put on injured reserve.
