Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire is debating calling up a third catcher from Triple-A Rochester, and his options include Cs Drew Butera, Rene Rivera and J.R. Towles. Butera is hitting .250 with one homer and three RBIs, Rivera is hitting .192 with two solo homers and Towles is batting .136 with no RBIs. A move is unlikely to come before Sunday, April 22.

Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire has a two-man bench for the game Saturday, Aug. 13, against the Cleveland Indians with OF Michael Cuddyer (neck) out, and 2B Alexi Casilla (hamstring) back in Minneapolis. C Drew Butera was taking grounders at second base in pre-game just in case he is needed. OF Ben Revere is the only other position player available off the bench.

Minnesota Twins SP Carl Pavano allowed seven earned runs, nine hits and two walks in just four innings in a loss Sunday, July 31, against the Oakland Athletics. It's the third consecutive start in which Pavano has allowed 10 baserunners or more in six innings or fewer. Pavano and C Drew Butera also allowed three more stolen bases. Opposing base stealers are converting 90 percent (18-of-20) attempts this season with Pavano on the mound. The A's entered the game as the only team in the majors without a win against Pavano in his career.
