The Associated Press reports the acquisition of RB Patrick Cobbs by the Pittsburgh Steelers could mean that neither RB Duce Staley nor seventh-round draft choice RB Cedric Humes will make the Steelers' 53-man roster. Cobbs is a power runner much like Staley, and it seems unlikely that the Steelers would keep both backs, plus third-down RB Verron Haynes, as backups to starting RB Willie Parker.

Teresa Varley, of Steelers.com, reports Pittsburgh Steelers seventh-round pick RB Cedric Humes is likely to be in the mix for short-yardage duties vacated by RB Jerome Bettis. "Whatever I go there to do, and whatever I do, I'm going to compete," said Humes. "If that's the job that I need to compete for, I definitely will. I definitely believe that I can be the short-yardage guy." The coaching staff plans to give him a good look at the position. "He makes yards after contact," said Steelers running backs coach Dick Hoak. "You get him down in the red zone and he doesn't have to run that far. He has been really productive on the goal line for them and if things work out like they did with Jerome (Bettis) last year he may be the guy to fill that role."
