Monty Mosher, of the Chronicle Herald, reports New York Jets OL Steve Morley has slimmed down to less than 310 pounds, his lightest weight since his days in high school. He will once again attempt to make the team's final roster when training camp starts in two weeks. He consistently topped 320 pounds in his time with the Green Bay Packers before they traded him to the Jets. The Jets new regime under head coach Eric Mangini wants the offensive front to be light, fast and durable. It is the model popularized by the New England Patriots, Mangini's old employer, in their recent championship era. "They want the offensive line to be lean guys who have endurance and can move pretty well," Morley, who is down to 308 pounds, said Saturday, July 15. Morley's seven appearances in 2005 came on special teams and he has yet to take a regular-season snap with an offence in two NFL seasons. Morley will need to beat out highly-touted rookie OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson to win the starting left tackle job. Morley's ability to play guard and tackle has increased his value.
