The San Francisco Chronicle reports the Oakland Raiders are trying to add help at cornerback. They asked whether former Raiders CB Eric Allen, who has expressed some desire to return to football, has filed his official retirement paperwork. "Everything's a possibility right now," coach Bill Callahan said wearily.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports the Oakland Raiders saved roughly $1.7 in cap space for 2002 due to the retirement of CB Eric Allen. The saved paying him a $950,000 roster bonus and his remaining base salary of $750,000. The remaining prorated share of his 1998 signing bonus, $1.35 million, still counts against the 2002 cap and the Raiders must take a $1.75 million cap hit for Allen against their 2003 cap.

If Allen returned, it would be his 15th season in the league. One of Allen's teammates said that part of Allen's decision will come from who the Raiders hire as their new head coach. Raiders senior assistant Bruce Allen said a final decision won't come within the next month.

According to the Sacramento Bee, Oakland Raiders CB Eric Allen's anticipated retirement may be nearing. Following Jon Gruden's departure, owner Al Davis referred to the team's starting cornerbacks as Charles Woodson and Tory James, who has been a backup behind Allen and Woodson in the past.
