Impending free-agent LB Thomas Howard (knee) said his knee is making great progress and that he should be in good shape by the start of training camp. It is uncertain if the Bengals will re-sign him or not, but he did lead the team in tackles two seasons ago. The team could elect to get younger at linebacker and move LB Vontaze Burfict to the middle if Howard is not signed to an extension.

The Cincinnati Bengals placed LB Thomas Howard (knee) on the Injured Reserve list after he suffered a season-ending knee injury in practice Thursday, Sept. 13. In a corresponding move, the team re-signed LB Roddrick Muckelroy.
