Jacksonville Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis said he would not be in favor of the team adding New York Jets QB Tim Tebow, who is not expected to return in 2013. General manager David Caldwell has said he doesn't see Tebow joining the Jaguars. "We need a guy that's going to put us over the hump right now. Not a project," Lewis said of Tebow.

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said the team has made an effort to get TE Marcedes Lewis more involved recently. "We have put more in just because of his production," Mularkey said. "Some of the things he's showed us; he can do some things better than we thought he could so we've purposely found more things for him to be involved." Earlier in the year with the offensive line in flux, Lewis often needed to help in pass protection, and QB Blaine Gabbert was not willing to take chances in tight coverage.

Pass protection and short routes were required of Lewis for most of the year and his numbers suffered. He's been targeted only once in the last two games after catching five passes for 52 yards in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings. The coaching staff appreciates Lewis' patience while being asked to block, and they'll be eager to use him again in the passing game when the offensive line is shored up. OG Eben Britton and OT Cameron Bradfield have been dealing with early season injuries but are expected to return this week.

Both Jacksonville Jaguars QBs Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne struggled at the goal line in one 7-on-7 period in practice Tuesday, Aug. 14, but Gabbert hit a deep bomb to WR Laurent Robinson in an 11-on-11 drill. Gabbert also showed several nice passes during sideline routes to Robinson and TE Marcedes Lewis.

Head coach Jack Del Rio said Monday, Nov. 28, that he had a conversation with Lewis after the drop. "I said there is a lot of football to be played. You've got to find a way to bounce back," Del Rio said. "That was a horrible miss - everybody knows it. You know it, and I know it. You can't hide from it, and you can't go back and change it. So do everything you can go get yourself out of a funk. Fight your butt off for usfor the rest of the ballgame."
