The team threw the ball during their final three offensive plays of the game. "As a player, all I could think of was maybe running a different play, but that's just a player mentality," TE Vernon Davis said. "Greg Roman, he called the shots. We gotta go with it and respect his calls. He believed in it, we believed in it, but it just didn't work." FS Donte Whitner added, "I'm a little surprised. But it's coach's call. Like anything, if it works, you're a genius. If it doesn't, you messed up."

Roman has effectively combined aspects of the read-option that QB Colin Kaepernick runs out of the pistol formation without losing the power game with fullbacks and tight ends that the team likes to run. "I think Greg Roman has done a job that is revolutionary in football," Harbaugh said. "I think the way he has mixed the trap, the power, the wham plays, into the pistol offense and into our conventional offense has been revolutionary in many ways."

The three teams intent on minimizing Davis were the New York Jets, New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks. In those three games, Davis was targeted seven times and he caught five passes for 65 yards. TE Delanie Walker has been a beneficiary of coverages skewed to stop Davis; his biggest games have come against the Jets and Seahawks. RB Frank Gore ran for 131 yards and averaged 8.2 yards a carry when the Seahawks focused on stopping Davis. The Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco's Week 8 opponent, will keep an eye on Davis; however, they likely will not do anything "drastic" to keep Davis out of the game.

"It was a good practice for us, that's how I look at it," Roman said. "I'm sure they slept real well that night because they got after us.
