Thu, 18 Jun 2009 11:46:45 -0700

Minnesota Vikings DE Ray Edwards said during an interview on ESPNews that he would welcome retired Brett Favre (Jets) to the team if he did not bring his diva attitude with him. Edwards said he would prefer QB Tarvaris Jackson to start for the Vikings instead of Favre signing with the team.

Vikings | Childress not concerned with how Favre would impact quarterbacks
Wed, 10 Jun 2009 08:20:05 -0700

Judd Zulgad, of the Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress did not express concern during a local radio interview with how the potential addition of free-agent QB Brett Favre (Jets) would impact current QBs Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson. "I'm not worried about that. I talked with Sage and Tarvaris. They are competitors. Do they like any of the conversation? Absolutely not. But they know this," Childress said. "I'm charged with adding and subtracting players from this team to make us better. Every day when I walk in this office there's not a day that I don't try to look and see if we can get better at some position. And if this is going to make us better down the road and it's got a chance to happen I'm going to take care of the Minnesota Vikings."

Chip Scoggins, of the Star Tribune, reports the competition between Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson and QB Sage Rosenfels for the team's starting quarterback job heated up during the team's recent minicamp as both quarterbacks had bright moments. Vikings | Childress defends Jackson's work ethic
Fri, 29 May 2009 15:33:17 -0700

Chip Scoggins, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress said in response to DE Pat Williams' comment about QB Tarvaris Jackson needing to work harder: "Tarvaris Jackson is one of hardest working guys you are going to find in this 85-man roster right now. Just in terms of the time he spends here, the time he spends in the books, with the wide receivers, in the weight room, strength and conditioning. There's very few people that work as hard as he does in the offseason."

Vikings | Jackson says QB competition even
Fri, 29 May 2009 13:03:29 -0700

Judd Zulgad and Chip Scoggins, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, report Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson said he does not believe he has any advantage over QB Sage Rosenfels in the quarterback competition even though he finished last season as the starter. "I don't think they're going to show me any favoritism just because I ended the year as a starter. I just think it's 50-50 and we're going to fight for it as hard as we can," Jackson said.

Vikings | Jackson surprised by Williams' comments
Wed, 27 May 2009 16:22:36 -0700

Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson said he was surprised DT Pat Williams went on radio to say Jackson needed to work harder to become a better quarterback. Jackson said he believes he works hard enough. "My first year, I had to figure it out. Now, I've pretty much figured it out. I'm studying more. I feel like I'm doing what I've got to do and that's pretty much all I've got say. I've put the time in, like he said, maybe I do have to put extra time in. I guess when you're not doing as well you've got to put the extra time in. But I feel like I'm working hard. I've always been a hard worker," Jackson said.

Vikings | P. Williams says Jackson needs to put in more work
Tue, 26 May 2009 14:16:51 -0700

Alex Marvez, of FOXSports.com, reports Minnesota Vikings DT Pat Williams said during a radio interview that he believes QB Tarvaris Jackson needs to put in more time to try to become a better quarterback. "I talk to Tarvaris all the time (and) tell him you have to put in the time," Williams said. "This ain't college no more. This is the NFL. You have to put in more time than you are used to putting in. If you are putting in four hours, you have to put in eight. You have to put in more time than what he's doing. I think if he puts the right time in, he will be a great quarterback in the league."

Vikings | Jackson not surprised by Rosenfels acquisition
Thu, 12 Mar 2009 09:02:34 -0700

Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson said during a radio interview that he was not surprised the team acquired QB Sage Rosenfels because he knew they would bring in competition. "It wasn't really a big surprise. I kind of figured they were going to make a move somewhere. I really didn't know exactly if it was going to be in the draft or wherever but I knew I was going to have to compete with somebody sometime this year. So it really doesn't matter exactly. I just know the only thing I can do is just take care of my part and that's what I'll try to do," Jackson said.

Vikings | Uncapped year could hurt T. Jackson
Thu, 26 Feb 2009 02:02:06 -0800

Rick Alonzo, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson is entering the final year of his contract. He could, however, run into troubles if the 2010 season remains uncapped. If that happens, he would be a restricted free agent. Players need at least six years of service to be an unrestricted free agent in an uncapped year instead of the four during a capped year.
