At the time, the Saints originally sent their 2011 seventh-round pick to New England for Thomas. However, the trade included conditions that upgraded the draft pick if Thomas reached certain performance marks. Thomas enjoyed the best season of his career in 2009, playing in 15 games (eight starts) and totaling 35 receptions for 356 yards.
