New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels pulled his name out of consideration for the Cleveland Browns' managerial opening because he wasn't the frontrunner, according to a source. Within 24 hours of pulling himself from consideration, he called to get back in. McDaniels was likely the "mystery candidate" before the team hired Mike Pettine.

The Cleveland Browns may decide to choose NFL Network analyst Michael Lombardi as their next general manager if president Joe Banner and owner Jimmy Haslam decide to move on from current GM Tom Heckert. Speculation is that if Lombardi becomes the GM, he could lure University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban back to the NFL under the Browns. Saban has said that the only way he would return to the NFL is under Lombardi. Oregon head coach Chip Kelly and New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels could be candidates for the head coaching position in Cleveland if Saban doesn't come along.

Edelman is a versatile player who give full effort, according to McDaniels. "He's a guy that gives you everything he's got on every play. He's got good speed and has caught the ball well for us so far this year," McDaniels said. "He's a returner, so he certainly gives you an element of run after the catch. I would say that's something he does fairly well. Not to say we don't have other players that do it very well too, but Jules has earned the right to get out there and play."

St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has been giving the team's players a crash course on his offense. He spent many hours going over game file with QB Sam Bradford the last few days. McDaniels said he may have to pare the playbook down when training camp starts because of the lost offseason, but he isn't ready to make that decision yet. Bradford said that the playbook terminology is very different from what the Rams ran last year. McDaniels, however, has taken some of the plays that worked well for Bradford and the Rams from a year ago and incorporated them into his playbook. McDaniels noted his offensive philosophy is to use every part of the field in the passing game and he also likes to mold his schemes around individual player talent.
