Jeff Legwold, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels did consider New England Patriots linebackers coach Matt Patricia for the team's defensive coordinator vacancy, according to two league sources.

Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers players said following the team's Week 11 game that Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels told their linebackers, "We own you" as he passed them on the field during pregame warmups. "I'm not surprised," LB Shaun Phillips said. "He's a little cocky (rear end). It's all good, all fun and games. We didn't look too much into it. As a coach, I hope he has that mind-set. But to say he owns us? I mean, you beat us one time. What has he really done in this league? He had a team 6-0 and now he's looking up at us from second place." McDaniels said after the game that the Chargers "talked to me first." He then said, "I'm not making a story about this. If I did, I'd be able to tell you some things that aren't for papers."

Players are amazed by how swift and precise McDaniels' practices are held, while former head coach Mike Shanahan ran more relaxed practices. WR Eddie Royal said, "He really spends a lot of time in game situations. We are practicing real game stuff all the time. He doesn't want us to panic when we get to a situation. It's all very well prepared."

Mike Chambers, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels said he would not discuss WR Brandon Marshall, particularly his attitude about attending training camp. "I'm not going to comment on his attitude or responses," McDaniels said. "It's an exciting time for us, and that's what we're focused on. I'm going to focus on anything else." Marshall said he has only communicated to McDaniels through his agent, but McDaniels said he spoke to all of the participating players. McDaniels added he does not think Marshall is a distraction to the rest of the team. "Nope. We're excited," McDaniels said. "This is a beginning. Training camp has opened officially. The veterans will join us here in a few days. We'll get rolling and see what kind of season we're going to have."

"We're going to do the best thing we can for the organization and for Brandon," McDaniels said before the meeting. "If those two things are the same, then it will work out. Jim Armstrong, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos TE Tony Scheffler, who heard his name in trade rumors following the trade of former QB Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears, recently had an air-clearing meeting with head coach Josh McDaniels. "It's definitely something we sat down and talked about," Scheffler said. "Nothing happened. It's in the past. In this league, you've got to move forward to the next day and keep moving or you'll get left behind. I'm on board with Josh. It's been a lot of fun."
