Fri, 22 Mar 2013 05:34:19 -0700 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) will be a full participant when the team's offseason program begins in two weeks.
Sat, 09 Feb 2013 07:13:58 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) said he is fine with the team using a committee approach at running back in 2013 between himself and RB C.J. Spiller. "If that's what it is, us sharing reps, we have no problems with that," Jackson said. "I don't have a problem with that. I'm looking forward going out there and making the best of my opportunities whenever I get on the field, I'm sure C.J.'s the same way. Whatever we can do to get a win, we're going to do, that's what we're about." Fantasy Tip: Jackson has played in no more than 10 games in each of the last two seasons. He also turns 32 later this month and has been dealing with knee issues. He averaged just 3.8 yards per carry in 2012. Expect Jackson to still have a role in the offense in 2013; however, the time has come for Spiller to receive a greater workload after his breakout campaign.
Fri, 08 Feb 2013 21:29:19 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) said Friday, Feb. 8, that he will see a doctor next week, as he recovers from the knee injury he suffered two months ago. "I've been doing rehab the entire time," Jackson said. "I've been able to get up and do some movement on it. I have a meeting with the doctor next week. I'm sure I'll be cleared and be able to do everything."
Sat, 26 Jan 2013 10:17:06 -0800 Buffalo Bills running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley said the team will be using RBs C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson in several offensive sets next season. "I would just say multiple," Wheatley said. "I know that's kind of vague and it doesn't really clear things up, but we're a multiple set. We could do two-back, we could be one back. We could be single back, we could be shotgun. It's a multiple set."
Thu, 03 Jan 2013 11:14:24 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson said he'd be willing to serve as RB C.J. Spiller's backup next year if the new head coach installs Spiller as the starting running back. Spiller racked up 1,244 rushing yards and averaged six yards per carry this season while Jackson dealt with a slew of injuries and had a career-worst 3.8 yards per carry.
Tue, 11 Dec 2012 14:05:51 -0800 The Buffalo Bills officially placed RB Fred Jackson (knee) on the Injured Reserve Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Mon, 10 Dec 2012 18:57:19 -0800 Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said Monday, Dec. 10, that RB Fred Jackson (knee) is likely headed for season-ending Injured Reserve after his Week 14 knee injury. "He's not going to make it. He's going to be out for the rest of the year," Gailey said. "It looks like (IR), but let me hold off to see what is officially, but that looks like the plan, yes." Gailey added that Jackson's injury is more likely to be a four-to-five week injury, rather than two-to-three weeks, as previously reported.
Mon, 10 Dec 2012 11:21:30 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) said he's dealing with a Grade 2 sprain of his medial collateral ligament in his knee. "I mean technically it's a tear off the bone, because you tear the ligament away from the bone. So that's why some people say it's a tear, but the ligament itself is intact. It's just pulled away from the bone a little bit," Jackson said.
Mon, 10 Dec 2012 10:02:30 -0800 Updating a continuing story, Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) believes he will be placed on Injured Reserve, even though his injury does not require surgery. "... I think they might just put me on Injured Reserve so they can get somebody to come in and play because I won't be able to play the rest of the regular season it looks like," Jackson said. "They probably will let me know for sure later today."
Mon, 10 Dec 2012 09:57:42 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) does not require surgery after suffering a sprained ligament in his right knee in Week 14, according to a person familiar with the running back's injury. He will miss between two and four weeks.
Mon, 10 Dec 2012 07:58:28 -0800 Updating previous reports, Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) has a Grade 2 sprain of his medial collateral ligament. His timetable is unchanged.
Mon, 10 Dec 2012 07:19:11 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) suffered a torn medial collateral ligament in Week 14 that will likely end his season.
Mon, 10 Dec 2012 07:00:02 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (ankle) could miss the remainder of the season as he is expected to be out at least two to three weeks, and if that's the case, Jackson may have played his final game with the team in Week 14. He is due to make nearly $5 million next season in salary and bonuses, which is considered a lot for someone who has been passed by RB C.J. Spiller in terms of big-play ability.
Mon, 10 Dec 2012 04:55:48 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller said following Week 14 he would like to receive more offensive touches. Spiller had just seven carries in the game. "Of course I want to touch the ball more, but there's no need for me to sit around and mope and groan and do all that stuff. That's high school. That's childish. That's not what I'm all about," Spiller said. "Is the frustration there? Yeah, deep down inside your gut as a competitor, yeah it's there, but there's nothing I can do about it, so I'm not going to sit around and pout." Head coach Chan Gailey said defenses are stacking the box against Spiller and not as much against RB Fred Jackson and, "we tried not to run against a loaded box,"
Mon, 10 Dec 2012 04:26:06 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) will be out for a minimum of two to three weeks, according to head coach Chan Gailey, after suffering an injury in Week 14. Fantasy Tip: Owners should not count on Jackson to help them in their fantasy playoffs as he could very well miss the rest of this season. That leaves C.J. Spiller as the lead back. Spiller had just eight touches in Week 14, but expect that number to go way up moving forward. Tashard Choice figures to see more action as well. Two of the team's last three games are at home, and with the weather in Buffalo starting to change, that could mean a greater emphasis on the run.
Sat, 08 Dec 2012 07:25:46 -0800 Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said the team has practiced outside once in each of the last two weeks, in hopes of what will be some cold and snowy December home games. The Bills, who play the St. Louis Rams in Week 14, are hoping to take advantage of teams not used to the colder temperatures. In Week 13 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo ran the football 46 times for 232 yards. "Especially in that running back room we feel like we can spark this offense and get us going. Hopefully we can do that, especially coming up in the month of December," RB Fred Jackson said. "It's going to be nasty out like that. We can take a lot of pressure off everybody on offense if we can go out and perform well."
Wed, 05 Dec 2012 10:02:57 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson said he wants to have the responsibility of pounding the football between the tackles, especially on third-and-short situations. "That's something we look at as an offense and say we've got to do," Jackson said. "It's something I put on my shoulders. I feel like I'm that type of back. If they give it to me on third-and-short I've got to get it. So it was something we focused on all week, more myself than anybody. If we get in third-and-short situations I want the ball and I've got to make that play."
Wed, 05 Dec 2012 09:56:31 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson said he and RB C.J. Spiller anticipated a lot of carries in Week 13 due to the sloppy field conditions, even if Spiller was expected to carry the load more often. "Everybody wants to be on the field," Jackson said. "My job is just to get out there and make plays when I get the opportunities. I felt like coming out here seeing what type of game it was we were going to have to run the ball. I felt like we would be out there and get that opportunity to make plays. I told C.J. to expect the ball a lot. We got the running game going early so it was something that I wanted to do personally and I'm just going to continue to try to make plays when I get out there no matter what the workload is ..."
Wed, 05 Dec 2012 09:47:36 -0800 Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said the weather conditions impacted the way he utilized RBs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller in Week 13. The wind, and in particular the rainy field, better suited Jackson's style as a power runner, even though earlier in the week, Gailey declared Spiller would be his starting running back and get about 60 percent of the carries. Jackson took 54 percent of the carries in the game and recorded 109 yards rushing, his first 100-yard rushing game since November 2011. "You'd like for C.J. to be on a fast track," Gailey said. "But he proved with that one run that sometimes it doesn't matter. But when you're in a physical, downhill game, that's more Fred's game."
Sun, 02 Dec 2012 14:14:18 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson rushed for 109 yards on 25 carries against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 13.
Mon, 26 Nov 2012 13:31:05 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson received 32 offensive snaps in Week 12 and was asked to stay in to block on 11 of the plays. RB C.J. Spiller received 29 snaps in the game and blocked only four times.
Thu, 22 Nov 2012 11:14:44 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (concussion) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 22.
Wed, 21 Nov 2012 14:26:57 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (concussion) practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 21.
Wed, 21 Nov 2012 11:05:05 -0800 Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (concussion) has been cleared to play and will return to practice Wednesday, Nov. 21. However, head coach Chan Gailey said RB C.J. Spiller will receive the start against the Indianapolis Colts. "C.J. will start, but we're still going to play Fred," said Gailey. "It takes two. It does. So Fred will get quite a few snaps, but C.J. will start and get the majority of the snaps."
Wed, 21 Nov 2012 09:07:56 -0800 Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said RB C.J. Spiller will start Week 12 but RB Fred Jackson (concussion) will also receive a good amount of carries. Gailey said he was not sure what the rotation will be at this point.
Tue, 20 Nov 2012 06:40:23 -0800 Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said RB Fred Jackson (concussion) is on track to return this week.
Mon, 19 Nov 2012 14:19:49 -0800 Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said RB Fred Jackson (concussion) did not practice Monday, Nov. 19, because he has not finished his concussion protocol. Gailey said Jackson should finish the protocol Tuesday, Nov. 20, and is expected to practice Wednesday, Nov. 21.
Mon, 19 Nov 2012 12:27:52 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (concussion) is not participating in practice Monday, Nov. 19.
Sat, 17 Nov 2012 10:41:00 -0800 Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said RB Fred Jackson (concussion) may be able to return to practice Wednesday, Nov. 21. Gailey said Jackson is feeling a lot better and is on track to return.
Thu, 15 Nov 2012 16:38:52 -0800 The Buffalo Bills have declared CB Aaron Williams, DL Chris Kelsay, RB Fred Jackson, LB Kirk Morrison, DL Mark Anderson, QB Tarvaris Jackson, OT Thomas Welch inactive for Week 11.
Wed, 14 Nov 2012 11:31:35 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (concussion), DE Mark Anderson (knee), DE Chris Kelsay (neck) and CB Aaron Williams (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 14, and have been ruled out for Week 11.
Mon, 12 Nov 2012 20:07:24 -0800 Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said Monday, Nov. 12, that RB C.J. Spiller will get "lots of opportunities" in the Week 11 game Thursday, Nov. 15, against the Miami Dolphins. RB Fred Jackson (concussion) will be sidelined.
Mon, 12 Nov 2012 12:22:44 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (head) has been ruled out of the team's Week 11 game, according to head coach Chan Gailey. Fantasy Tip: C.J. Spiller will assume a larger workload, and Tashard Choice also will see more touches. Spiller is no worse than an RB2 this week against the Miami Dolphins, while Choice should be acquired from your waiver wire and played as a flex option in deep leagues.
Mon, 12 Nov 2012 04:41:51 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (head) left the team's Week 10 game late in the fourth quarter with a head injury. "I don't know if they're calling it a concussion," head coach Chan Gailey said. "I don't know what the word is. I don't know if it's a concussion or not. They didn't tell me." Fantasy Tip: The Bills have a short week as they play the Miami Dolphins in Week 11 Thursday, Nov. 15. If Jackson did indeed suffer a concussion, it's unlikely he plays this week. C.J. Spiller would get the starting nod.
Sun, 11 Nov 2012 14:27:29 -0800 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries in Week 10 against the New England Patriots. He also caught four passes for 35 yards in the game.
Wed, 24 Oct 2012 10:09:25 -0700 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson said his knee is back to feeling like it was before he suffered his injury. "I haven't felt as well as I did (Sunday) in a long time. I was able to go out and make a few plays—didn't make enough because we still got the loss. But I did feel good and hopefully I can continue to play well," Jackson said.
Wed, 24 Oct 2012 05:21:20 -0700 Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said he believes he found the right balance of touches between RBs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller in Week 7. Spiller and Jackson combined for 222 yards from scrimmage, on 35 total touches. "It was good. I'm not sure if ideal ever hits. First of all, nothing is ideal unless you win. There were some opportunities we had to score more points so it wasn't ideal," Gailey said, "but for them to touch it 35 times between them and about four, five other times we tried to get the ball to Fred on some throws and did not connect on them. If we can let them touch it between 30 and 40 times a game, I think that's pretty good for us." The Bills used Jackson and Spiller together on five of their 60 offensive snaps, including on their first touchdown.
Sun, 21 Oct 2012 14:28:13 -0700 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson rushed for 71 yards on nine carries in Week 7 against the Tennessee Titans. Jackson also caught eight passes for 49 yards in the game.
Wed, 17 Oct 2012 09:51:16 -0700 Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller said he and RB Fred Jackson will continue to rotate every two series like they have been the last few games. Spiller said the team rotated the running backs every series when Jackson returned from his knee injury but decided neither running back could get into a rhythm in that situation. "We thought it would be best if we did two series so that is what we have done these last two games. We will continue to do that. If they want us in on certain plays, the coaching staff will do that but as far as me and Fred are concerned, we think two to three series each is better because it kind of keeps everybody fresh," Spiller said.
Mon, 15 Oct 2012 10:17:34 -0700 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) said he felt good without the knee brace on in Week 6 and it allowed him to move around better during the game. Jackson said he is still not 100 percent at this point but is feeling better each day.
Sun, 14 Oct 2012 18:11:41 -0700 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson carried 16 times for 53 yards and a touchdown in the Week 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals, and he added five catches for 30 yards. Jackson also lost a fumble.
Sat, 13 Oct 2012 07:01:26 -0700 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) is ready for a larger workload, and he said the strength in his right knee has increased greatly in the past two weeks. Jackson will make a game-time decision in Week 6 about whether to abandon the knee brace team doctors have had him wear the past two weeks. "I want to come out of it, but again it's going to come up to what the doctors think. I've got to do what they tell me," Jackson said. "They're going to do everything they can to keep me safe, so if they tell me I have to wear it another week, I have to wear it another week."
Sat, 13 Oct 2012 06:56:20 -0700 The Buffalo Bills could use RBs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller on the field at the same time. That look is something the team worked on during training camp, but haven't been able to utilize much because of the injuries to both backs.
Sat, 13 Oct 2012 06:49:04 -0700 Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said it is a challenge distributing carries between RBs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller. In Week 5, both backs had almost an identical snap count; 24 for Spiller and 22 for Jackson. The week prior, it was 36 for Jackson and 31 for Spiller. Both backs have struggled recently. Jackson has 58 rushing yards on 22 carries since returning from a sprained knee that caused him to miss two games, in addition to four receptions for 55 yards. Spiller has just 57 yards on 15 carries during the team's two-game losing streak, with only one catch for 5 yards in that span. There have been a couple of factors contributing to the run game's problems. One of those is the shuffling of the offensive line due to injuries. Another is the score, especially in the second half of the past two games; the Bills fell so far behind they had no choice but to abandon the run.
Thu, 11 Oct 2012 11:21:03 -0700 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) said his knee is feeling stronger over the past two weeks, and he would like to remove the knee brace he has been wearing, but will listen to the doctors before doing so.
Sun, 07 Oct 2012 21:24:16 -0700 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson carried nine times for just 29 yards in the Week 5 game against the San Francisco 49ers, and RB C.J. Spillers chipped in with 24 yards on seven totes.
Wed, 03 Oct 2012 10:08:48 -0700 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) said he will wear the brace on his knee again in Week 5 but does not know if he will wear it beyond this week. He did say his knee feels better than it did last week.
Sun, 30 Sep 2012 08:49:22 -0700 Buffalo Bills RBs Fred Jackson (knee) and C.J. Spiller (shoulder) are both active in Week 4 against the New England Patriots.
Fri, 28 Sep 2012 14:05:37 -0700 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) expects to be able to play in Week 4 against the New England Patriots after doctors cleared him. Jackson practiced despite feeling some soreness Friday, Sept. 28. Head coach Chan Gailey said there is a "legitimate chance" of both Jackson and RB C.J. Spiller (shoulder) playing in Week 4.
Fri, 28 Sep 2012 11:59:37 -0700 Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) was limited in practice Friday, Sept. 28, and is questionable for Week 4. Fantasy Tip: Check back Sunday morning to see if Jackson will be active. C.J. Spiller (shoulder) is also questionable this week, so it's unknown how much of a workload split they'll take on if both backs play. As of now, Jackson and Spiller are probably midrange No. 2 RBs if they play, and are probably better served as flex options. Don't forget, Tashard Choice is around, too.
