Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, reports the Green Bay Packers will retain special teams coach Mike Stock for next season, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. The Packers ranked last in the league in special teams in 2006.

Packers | Too much coaching might have caused special teams problems

Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy believes there was "a little bit too much coaching going on" last Saturday, Aug. 12. The team lined up with 10 men on the field for their first two punts during the game. SS Nick Collins was on the phone talking to defensive coaches and forgot that he was a part of the punt team. Special teams coordinator Mike Stock said, "Put it on me. These things have to be corrected by me. It's my responsibility to get guys in the right spot at the right time."

Packers | Both return jobs will be open to competition in training camp

Chris Jenkins, of the Associated Press, reports the Green Bay Packers have not run full-speed kick and punt return drills during this month's voluntary workouts, meaning both jobs will be open to competition in training camp. Special teams coordinator Mike Stock said, "We're not going to put that together until we get to camp. Then most everything we do will be full speed."

Packers | Position battles at punter and kicker

Lori Nickel, of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, reports the Green Bay Packers will have a battle that will last through training camp at both punter and place kicker. Green Bay Packers PK Billy Cundiff and PK Dave Rayner will battle for the right to kick field goals. Green Bay Packers P B.J. Sander and P Jon Ryan will be in competition for the starting punter position. "These guys are going to tell us who is going to be the guy," said Green Bay special teams coordinator Mike Stock. "Somebody will emerge, and if takes through the pre-season of all the games we're going to be involved with, then so be it."
