"Healthwise ... everything except for my head is fine," Chrebet said. "I still have a lot of struggles. It still gets gradually worse at times. I just try to talk to as many people as possible, talk through it with doctors about the long-term future." Some of the symptoms Chrebet is hampered with include headaches, lethargy and sensitivity to light and sound. "I still don't want to scare people, but I'm more concerned," he said. "Hopefully in the near future, these things subside and no one needs to know about them because they're going away."

The risk was certainly worth the reward. You wake up every morning like you have a hangover," he said. "I don't know why that is. I've been told it goes away eventually. I look forward to that day." Perhaps wanting to hold on to the slim hope that he could play again, Chrebet delayed his retirement announcement as long as he could.
