Citing an interview with the Bergen Record, Stan Olson, of the Charlotte Observer, reports former New York Jets WR Wayne Chrebet, who retired after the 2005 season due to suffering 13 concussions during his football career, is still bothered by post-concussion symptoms. "Healthwise ... everything except for my head is fine," Chrebet said. "I still have a lot of struggles. It still gets gradually worse at times. I just try to talk to as many people as possible, talk through it with doctors about the long-term future." Some of the symptoms Chrebet is hampered with include headaches, lethargy and sensitivity to light and sound. "I still don't want to scare people, but I'm more concerned," he said. "Hopefully in the near future, these things subside and no one needs to know about them because they're going away."

Andrew Marchand, of the New York Post, reports SportsNet NY is on the verge of signing retired New York Jets WR Wayne Chrebet for its Jets pre- and post-game coverage this season. "We have had discussions with Chrebet and his representatives, but no deal is finalized yet,'' an SNY spokesman said. The sides are trying to figure out how many weeks the former Jet wide receiver will work. He also could be part of the network's training camp coverage.

Ken Berger, of Newsday, reports retired New York Jets WR Wayne Chrebet said at his retirement news conference Friday, June 2, he still has post-concussion symptoms. "Headaches are a big daily part of my life," he said. "It's been like that for the last couple of years. I don't want to say you get used to it, but you learn to expect it. The risk was certainly worth the reward. You wake up every morning like you have a hangover," he said. "I don't know why that is. I've been told it goes away eventually. I look forward to that day." Perhaps wanting to hold on to the slim hope that he could play again, Chrebet delayed his retirement announcement as long as he could.

New York Jets WR Wayne Chrebet announced his retirement from the NFL Friday, June 2, after playing in 11 NFL seasons. Chrebet retires with the second most pass receptions (580) in Jets' history. "I had great people around me," said Chrebet. "I'm truly thankful that those people were along for the ride with me. From start to finish, the same people have been in my circle. I've picked up some great friends along the way who have been there when I needed them. All in all, I dedicate my whole career to the people who helped me achieve it."

"It's just a shame when they say stuff like that," Chrebet said. "I needed to take some time, obviously, to see how I felt, but also to see where I stood with the team, with the doctors, with my family. That was all I said, and it went from there." While Chrebet acknowledges the concerns regarding the concussions he has suffered, he said he is in top condition and excited to continue playing. "This is the first time in my life I'm fighting something I don't understand, something I can't see," Chrebet said. "It's just tough to swallow, if that ends up being the reason I have to walk away from the game sooner than I would want to. If it weren't for that, in the right place, I think I could play for years more. I'm only 31. I'm as fresh as can be."
