The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank said during a press conference that he was "very disappointed" in QB Michael Vick. Blank also said he was initially in favor of a four-game suspension, but said the leave of absence was the best option. When asked if he ever directly asked Vick if he was involved in illegal dog fighting, Blank said he had not. General manager Rich McKay said releasing Vick was an option discussed, but they agreed with the league's ruling. Head coach Bobby Petrino said there is a possibility that the team will have to prepare for a season without Michael Vick.

"We're going to put it all on him. That's something that's new to him. It's something he's excited about. It's the way I believe you train a quarterback. Steve Wyche, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports Atlanta Falcons new head coach Bobby Petrino addressed the recent incident involving QB Michael Vick, who was cleared of any wrongdoing after attempting to pass through Miami International Airport security with an unknown particulate in a hidden compartment of a water bottle. "I told him I didn't think our first meeting would be under these circumstances, but it was good to get to know him a little bit," Petrino said regarding the face-to-face meeting he and team president/general manager Rich McKay had with Vick last week. "He told me what happened and how it happened, and from that point we decided we're going to get past that. It's unfortunate but we're going to put that behind us and it's hopefully football from here on. I'm really looking forward to moving on."

The Associated Press reports Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino signed a new 10-year contract Thursday, July 13, that will earn him $1.6 million each year plus bonuses. The new contract calls for Petrino to receive $1 million bonuses for every three years he stays with the team beginning in 2007. If he is still with the team in 2015, his annual pay would increase to $2.6 million and he would receive a $2 million bonus. Athletic director Tom Jurich said Petrino is one of the finest coaches in the country. Under the new contract, Petrino would earn a $200,000 bonus for playing in one of the four Bowl Championship Series games and $100,000 for winning the national championship.

ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen reports University of Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino confirmed that he turned down the Oakland Raiders head coaching job for a third time Wednesday, Feb. 8. The latest offer would have paid him $18 million over five years. Petrino told Mortensen that he was flattered by the Raiders' persistence but that he was committed to Louisville and did not feel his family was ready for a move. Petrino is the only coach to whom the Raiders have offered the position.
