The Philadelphia Phillies are in the process of narrowing down their playoff roster for the Divisional Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, which begins Saturday, Oct. 1. OF John Bowker will not be on the roster, and 1B Peter Orr and C Erik Kratz will make the cut. The team will go with 11 pitchers.

The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired OF John Bowker from the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday, Aug. 30, for a player to be named. Bowker is expected to join his new team Wednesday, Aug. 31, in Cincinnati.

Pittsburgh Pirates OF John Bowker was named the player of the month at Triple-A Indianapolis. In 27 games in the month of July, Bowker batted .316 with seven homers and 20 RBIs.
