Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval scratched from lineup

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 14:57:41 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (back) was scratched from the lineup Friday, Sept. 4, due to "back tightness." 1B Travis Shaw will take his place at third base and hit fifth against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan.

Fantasy Tip: Shaw ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) surprisingly is hitting a cool .297 (11-for-37) in a small sample size against lefties this year. Morgan isn't an imposing lefty, so Shaw could deliver again against a southpaw tonight as a sleeper option on FantasyScore.

Red Sox | Brock Holt batting second vs. White Sox

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 15:16:30 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Brock Holt is starting at third base and batting second against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale Wednesday, Aug. 26. 3B Pablo Sandoval is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Sandoval ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) draws out against southpaw Sale ($9,300, 18.6% of cap), as it is a daunting matchup, and Sandoval hasn't handled lefties well this season. Holt ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is riding a hot streak with a 1.139 OPS over his past seven games, but you're going against the grain starting Holt against Sale.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval hitting third Wednesday

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 15:10:35 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval is hitting third in the batting order against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: A move up the order is good news for Sandoval ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) in daily formats. He's also fared much better against righties this year (.286/.340/.463) than against lefties (.200/.238/.233). The Panda is a risk/reward start on FantasyScore tonight while facing the Klubot.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval returns to the lineup

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 12:52:03 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (elbow) is starting at third base and batting sixth against Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar Monday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Sandoval ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) only missed a game with the minor injury, so there isn't really much risk from that angle. The risk comes in the form of his .219/.292/.375 slash line over his past 28 games. FantasyScore owners should likely aim higher Monday, especially with Salazar ($7,900, 15.8% of cap) dialed in on the mound.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval out Sunday

Sun, 16 Aug 2015 08:26:43 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (elbow) is out of the starting lineup Sunday, Aug. 16, against the Seattle Mariners. OF Brock Holt will shift to third base, while 2B Josh Rutledge will start at second base and hit eighth in the order against LHP Vidal Nuno.

Fantasy Tip: Rutledge ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) went 2-for-2 Saturday with four runs scored and two walks. That was an outlier game for the rarely used infielder, and he remains a very risky FantasyScore option.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval exits early

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 17:26:41 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval (elbow) left early against the Seattle Mariners with a right elbow contusion after being hit by a pitch Saturday, Aug. 15. He was 1-for-1 with a home run, an RBI and a two runs scored before leaving.

Fantasy Tip: Despite leaving early Saturday, Sandoval ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has four RBI and four runs scored in the series, and Boston has scored 37 runs through the first two games. If he is able to play Sunday, Aug. 16, consider using him as part of a Red Sox stack at FantasyScore.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval drives in three runs

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 06:46:04 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles and three RBI during Boston's 15-1 win over the Seattle Mariners Friday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Including Friday, Sandoval ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has just five runs, two home runs and nine RBI with a .227/.299/.364 slash line over his past 25 games. He cannot be started with confidence in the majority of formats.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval working on conditioning

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 10:36:31 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval has been "working hard" on his conditioning issues recently, and he regularly spent time working with his personal trainer on the team's recent road trip. Weight issues have plagued Sandoval throughout his career, and he had his best season when he was at his lightest. Sandoval's defense at third base has really struggled this season, and he has responded to Boston's desire that he lose some weight. He enters the weekend series with a .253/.304/.376 slash line, and his problems with the bat have been hurt by a jammed left thumb that has bothered him recently. Sandoval is batting just .200 (14-for-70) with four doubles and two home runs since the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: Sandoval's ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) disappointing season continues, and it's gotten so bad that he has stopped switch hitting against left-handers. The Kung Fu Panda has been much better at home this year, though, so perhaps he's worth a sleeper selection on FantasyScore in the right matchup.

Red Sox | No Pablo Sandoval against Tigers

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 07:15:16 -0700

Boston Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval is not in the starting lineup Sunday, Aug. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Brock Holt ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is filling in at third base with Josh Rutledge ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) starting at second base. Facing Justin Verlander ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) both Holt and Rutledge are fliers at FantasyScore, but especially Holt who is batting leadoff. Sandoval ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is just 4-for-23 over his past eight games, and he isn't worth a roster spot in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Red Sox | Pablo Sandoval won't play first base

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 19:00:15 -0700

Boston Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said it would be "unlikely" for 3B Pablo Sandoval to see any playing time at first base this season.

Fantasy Tip: Sandoval ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has played 63 games at first base in his major league career but none since 2012. Travis Shaw ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is likely to get most of the playing time at first base for Boston following the trade of Mike Napoli to the Texas Rangers and is available at a cap-friendly price in FantasyScore.
