Saints | Gibbs likely to keep same defensive scheme

Jimmy Smith, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs said Tuesday, Jan. 24, that despite his history of coaching a 3-4 scheme, he'll likely keep the more commonly used 4-3 front in New Orleans. There's no question it's viable," Gibbs said of the 3-4. "All you've got to do is look around the league and look at teams that have run it and the success they've had. Certainly we transitioned to that in Dallas a year ago and had some success."

The New Orleans Saints have hired Gary Gibbs as their defensive coordinator. Gibbs previously served as the Dallas Cowboys' linebackers coach for the past four seasons. He has been a coordinator three times, including at LSU in 2001.

Mike Triplett, of the New Orleans Times Picayune, reports Dallas Cowboys assistant coach Gary Gibbs interviewed for the New Orleans Saints' defensive coordinator position Friday, Jan. 20, according to league sources. Gibbs is the apparent front-runner for the job, but no contract has been offered, sources said. Gibbs worked with new head coach Sean Payton on the Cowboys' staff for the past three seasons.
