Defensive line coach Pepper Johnson will now be the linebackers coach, linebackers coach Patrick Graham has been named the defensive line coach, defensive assistant Brian Flores has been named safeties coach, defensive assistant Josh Boyer has been named cornerbacks coach and offensive assistant George Godsey has been named tight ends coach.

"I think Pepper is probably ready to take over a defense and be in control, and I anticipate he'll have that opportunity soon," Crennel said.

Although it is not clear where Johnson sits on head coach Tom Coughlin's list of candidates, one team source said the list is actually long. According to various team and NFL sources, it includes several coaches with defensive coordinator experience, including former Buffalo Bills interim head coach Perry Fewell.
