Dolphins | Joe Philbin says QB will be his decision

Wed, 23 May 2012 05:29:12 -0700

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said he will decide who starts at quarterback for the team following comments made by owner Stephen Ross, who suggested QB Matt Moore will start. "I know he's the owner, but he might not sign my check, the treasurer does," Philbin said. "But last time I checked, he's on board. We've been very up front with him, that we want a competitive situation at that position."

Dolphins | Haven't talked about taking Ryan Tannehill

Wed, 25 Apr 2012 06:20:20 -0700

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said the team has not talked specifically about taking Texas A&M QB Ryan Tannehill with the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL Draft. "We've talked obviously a lot," Philbin said. "We've had draft meetings. We've discussed him as an individual. We've watched his film. Obviously Mike (Sherman) has been around Ryan for a long, long time, but it wasn't like we sat around and said, 'OK, what about him at eight?'"

Dolphins | Pursued Matt Flynn aggressively

Wed, 28 Mar 2012 11:58:53 -0700

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said the team made an aggressive push to sign Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Flynn while he was a free agent. "I think we made an aggressive push. We got him in here relatively quickly," Philbin said. "Again, we had a great meeting. Matt (Flynn) and I had some conversations, a number of conversations prior to his arrival to Miami. We had some subsequent ones after. He'd probably be able to give you better answer as to why he chose to go elsewhere. All I know is when we were together the visit was excellent. I thought he got along very well with our offensive staff."

Dolphins | Wide receiver a need

Fri, 16 Mar 2012 10:34:24 -0700

The Miami Dolphins don't need to find a dominate, alpha No. 1 receiver, because head coach Joe Philbin's system keeps everyone involved and spreads the ball around well. With Brandon Marshall traded to the Chicago Bears, the Dolphins may look to sign a free-agent wide receiver at a reasonable price. They will likely also add two receivers through the NFL Draft.

Dolphins | Questions at tight end

Fri, 16 Mar 2012 10:22:52 -0700

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin must figure out if TE Anthony Fasano can fill the starting tight end role in his West Coast system. In Philbin's offense, the tight end position plays an important role as it serves as the primary checkdown for quarterbacks.

If Fasano isn't the answer, the Dolphins may look to the free-agent market to add TE Dallas Clark (Colts) or Joel Dreessen (Texans); they could also address the position during the NFL Draft, looking to find a tight end capable of being a threat in the seam. With Philbin's ties to the Green Bay Packers, the team could look to trade for one of the Packers' five tight ends, possibly DJ Williams.

Dolphins | Aaron Rodgers thinks Matt Flynn would fit well

Thu, 26 Jan 2012 08:53:40 -0800

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said he believes impending free-agent QB Matt Flynn would be a good fit for the Miami Dolphins because of his relationship with head coach Joe Philbin. Philbin previously served as Green Bay's offensive coordinator. "I think it kind of makes sense. Joe in that system, which I'm sure is going to be very similar to this system, and Matt having a great grasp of that and playing well in his recent opportunities. I think it would kind of make sense to bring Matt out there," Rodgers said. "I think it's a strong possibility that they (the Dolphins) would make a run at him."
