Before the restructure, Blalock's cap number was $5.3 million for 2012. The Falcons likely shifted some option bonuses around in order to create a more cap-friendly deal that allowed them to pursue Samuel.

"I wanted to be in meetings because you get to see things schematically," Blalock said. "It's just a matter of application when you get (on the practice fields). It's also good to take mental reps with some of the younger guys."
