The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are talking with the agent for OT Donald Penn Saturday, July 31, in hopes of finalizing a long-term extension, according to Charlie Campbell, of PewterReport.com. According to sources, the contract is not believed to be in the six-year, $60 million range that was given out to New York Jets OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson or Philadelphia Eagles OT Jason Peters. The parameters of the deal would not be disclosed.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers C Jeff Faine said he believes the contract situation of restricted free-agent OT Donald Penn could be a distraction if it is not handled by the start of training camp, reports Rick Stroud, of the St. Petersburg Times. "It could (become a distraction). I think so," Faine said. "And I'm not necessarily saying it's his fault, either. I think that each side of the field needs to even out. Let's meet in the middle and get this going. As an offensive line, you like to have continuity. You like to have guys working together all the time. We've changed quite a bit this off-season and that's something he's going to have to catch up on."
