Miami Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who hit just .220 with a .681 OPS and a career-high 143 strikeouts in 2014, led all catchers with 15 errors in 922 2/3 innings last year. The Marlins want to see Saltalamacchia improve his defense and create more strikes for the pitchers by improving his framing. According to Baseball Prospectus, Saltalamacchia cost his pitchers 125.6 strikes, roughly 50 more than the second worst framing catcher last year. He was also charged with 17 wild pitches and passed balls.
Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia was expected to take a big dip in offensive production last season with the move from Boston to Miami. While he may not be as bad as he was in 2014 at the plate, don't expect a dramatic rebound in his second season with the Fish. He will, however, offer decent power as your second catcher in two-catcher leagues.

Miami Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia (back) has been bothered by a sore back, leading to more playing time recently for C Jeff Mathis, according to manager Mike Redmond.
Fantasy Tip: This injury doesn't sound serious enough to require a DL stint for Salty. Mathis, a career .195 hitter, will not get enough playing time or produce enough offensively to be fantasy-relevant.

The Miami Marlins placed OF Christian Yelich (back) on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain Monday, June 16, and optioned 2B Donovan Solano to Triple-A New Orleans. Also, SP Andrew Heaney and Anthony DeSclafani, OF Jake Marisnick and INF Justin Bour have been recalled from the minors. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia (concussion) was moved to the 15-day DL.
Fantasy Tip: With Yelich sidelined, the Fish have decided to call up two of the their top prospects in Andrew Heaney and Jake Marisnick. Heaney should be expected to have a starting rotation spot with Randy Wolf being cut. Add Heaney immediately in all formats. Marisnick will likely fill in in center in place of Yelich. Marisnick has above average hitting skills across the board, including raw power and plus speed. Marisnick should be owned in NL-only and deep mixed formats, but keep in mind that his stay could be short.
