The Boston Red Sox and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia agreed on a one-year, $2.5 million contract Sunday, Jan. 15, as the two sides avoid arbitration. Saltalamacchia set career highs with 16 home runs and 56 RBIs last season.

Boston Red Sox C Jarrod Saltalamacchia (forearm) was hit on the forearm by a pitch in the ninth inning Tuesday, Aug. 30. X-rays revealed no further damage, and he is simply sore. Saltalamacchia won't start Wednesday, Aug. 31, as C Jason Varitek is scheduled to catch SP Josh Beckett.
