Marlins | Jarrod Saltalamacchia likely to be dealt

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 00:18:06 -0700

Miami Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is likely to be dealt sometime during the 10-day period he is designated for assignment. The club has heard from five teams interested in his services.

Fantasy Tip: Salty's fantasy value was non-existent to start with, but it could improve a bit depending on where he lands. Still, remember how bad Salty was this year and steer clear.

Marlins | Jarrod Saltalamacchia cut by Marlins

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 13:28:49 -0700

Miami Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia was designated for assignment Monday, April 27, after he returned from paternity leave. He started the season 2-for-29, and he's owed $14.2 million through the end of the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: Salty can now be cut in all formats. J.T. Realmuto ($1,800, 3.6% of cap), the team's rookie backstop, should receive a value boost in NL-only and deep mixed leagues as a result. He's hitting .265 (9-for-34) and should split playing time behind the plate with Jhonatan Solano.

Marlins | Jarrod Saltalamacchia to paternity list

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 12:04:00 -0700

Miami Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia was placed on the paternity list Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Expect J.T. Realmuto ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) to continue receiving the majority of starts behind the dish for the Marlins, and especially with Saltalamacchia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) out of the picture in the short term. Realmuto is off to a nice start with the stick, too. He has gone 7-for-23 with a .391 on-base percentage to start the season, and he is a nice source of cap relief for FantasyScore players.

Marlins | Jarrod Saltalamacchia unhappy

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 14:55:05 -0700

Miami Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is unhappy about being benched, as C J.T. Realmuto will start his third consecutive game Friday, April 17. "I can't control this," he said. "I can't grab the lineup and put my name on it. Do I want to be in there? Yeah. There's not a day I don't want to be in there. I'm not going to sit here and complain. I want to play. But I'm not going to hurt this team. I'm not going to be the reason."

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Saltalamacchia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) in FantasyScore contests Friday, and his lack of playing time is a real concern for owners in deep mixed, two-catcher and NL-only formats. Realmuto ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is worth a look in daily contests Friday, and he is likely worth a speculative add in all the deep leagues previously mentioned.

Marlins | Jarrod Saltalamacchia sitting vs. Mets

Thu, 16 Apr 2015 13:14:22 -0700

Miami Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is not in the starting lineup against the New York Mets Thursday, April 16. C J.T. Realmuto is catching and batting seventh Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Saltalamacchia from your fantasy lineups Thursday. Realmuto ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is an upside target for FantasyScore players, as he is a top prospect and had a nice 2015 debut Wednesday, April 15, with a 2-for-3, two-run showing.

Marlins | Jarrod Saltalamacchia sitting vs. Rays

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 06:38:16 -0700

Miami Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is not in the starting lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, April 12. C Jeff Mathis is starting behind the plate and batting eight Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Saltalamacchia in all daily contests Sunday. He has gone just 1-for-18 (.077 batting average) at the dish this season, so hopefully a day off will kick-start his offense. Mathis ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) isn't worth starting in FantasyScore contests, even at his contest-low price tag. He is a career .195 hitter and daily players should aim higher.

Marlins | Jarrod Saltalamacchia working on defense

Mon, 23 Feb 2015 11:26:20 -0800

Miami Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who hit just .220 with a .681 OPS and a career-high 143 strikeouts in 2014, led all catchers with 15 errors in 922 2/3 innings last year. The Marlins want to see Saltalamacchia improve his defense and create more strikes for the pitchers by improving his framing. According to Baseball Prospectus, Saltalamacchia cost his pitchers 125.6 strikes, roughly 50 more than the second worst framing catcher last year. He was also charged with 17 wild pitches and passed balls.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia was expected to take a big dip in offensive production last season with the move from Boston to Miami. While he may not be as bad as he was in 2014 at the plate, don't expect a dramatic rebound in his second season with the Fish. He will, however, offer decent power as your second catcher in two-catcher leagues.

Marlins | Jarrod Saltalamacchia bothered by back soreness

Sun, 03 Aug 2014 10:31:32 -0700

Miami Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia (back) has been bothered by a sore back, leading to more playing time recently for C Jeff Mathis, according to manager Mike Redmond.

Fantasy Tip: This injury doesn't sound serious enough to require a DL stint for Salty. Mathis, a career .195 hitter, will not get enough playing time or produce enough offensively to be fantasy-relevant.

Twins | Kurt Suzuki looking for fair annual value

Fri, 25 Jul 2014 01:20:10 -0700

Extension talks are ongoing between the Minnesota Twins and C Kurt Suzuki on a new contract. Suzuki reportedly wants a fair annual market value like those earned by Philadelphia Phillies C Carlos Ruiz (three years, $26 million), Miami Marlins C Jarrod Saltalamacchia ($21 million over three years), and free-agent C A.J. Pierzynski (one year, $8.25 million) over the last offseason.
