Tigers | Jarrod Saltalamacchia resting

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 13:00:56 -0700

Detroit Tigers C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27. C Bobby Wilson is doing the catching and batting eighth against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson isn't much of a hitter, as he hit just .189 with one home run in 2015. You can find much better low-price catchers in daily formats Wednesday night.

Tigers | Jarrod Saltalamacchia clubs sixth homer

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 14:09:02 -0700

Detroit Tigers C Jarrod Saltalamacchia accounted for his team's only run on Saturday, April 23, clubbing a sinker from Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber into the right-field stands.

Fantasy Tip: In one of the more surprising developments during the first month of the season, Salty ranks tied for second in the American League in home runs (six) and trails only Josh Donaldson in RBI (15). At this rate, it might be hard for manager Brad Ausmus to give James McCann his starting job back. Saltalamacchia needs to be owned in all leagues right now, even if Ausmus eventually decides to use a left-right platoon when McCann comes off the disabled list.

Tigers | Anthony Gose, Saltalamacchia sitting

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 14:13:40 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Anthony Gose and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia are not in the starting lineup Friday, April 22. OF Tyler Collins is starting in center field and batting seventh, while C Bobby Wilson is behind the dish and is hitting eighth against Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin.

Fantasy Tip: Collins and Wilson are at the bottom of the barrel in terms of daily options to consider Friday night. That's two straight games Gose has been on the bench against right-handers, so his playing time could be in jeopardy moving forward. After all, Gose is off to a .200 (8-for-40) start with no stolen bases in one attempt.

Tigers | Jarrod Saltalamacchia homers again

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 16:02:25 -0700

Detroit Tigers C Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit his fourth home run of the season Sunday, April 17, in a 5-4 loss to the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia is looking decent in his early-season audition, especially with James McCann on the disabled list. With four homers and 11 runs batted in, Saltalamacchia is a decent option at least until McCann returns. Then wait and see what the Tigers do as far as his playing time.

Tigers | Three Tigers take a seat

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 07:10:01 -0700

Detroit Tigers SS Jose Iglesias, OF Anthony Gose and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia are out of the lineup Thursday, April 14. OF Tyler Collins is hitting sixth, C Bobby Wilson is hitting seventh and SS Andrew Romine is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: The trio is a combined 1-for-5 (.200) this season, and none of them provide enough upside for a DFS start. Furthermore, Jordan Zimmermann is hitting ninth in the National League park, which means the bottom of Detroit's order is even more questionable. That could affect Ian Kinsler in the leadoff spot. Kinsler is on a .355-3-8 tear and remains a daily consideration, but his RBI upside is minimal today.

Tigers | Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the lineup

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 07:33:52 -0700

Detroit Tigers C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is hitting seventh Tuesday, April 12, against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Juan Nicasio.

Fantasy Tip: Salty isn't a real safe DFS flyer today.

Tigers | Jarrod Saltalamacchia drives in four

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 18:23:25 -0700

Detroit Tigers C Jarrod Saltalamacchia went 2-for-5 with a double, home run and four RBIs in a victory over the Miami Marlins Wednesday, April 6.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia is unlikely to see much playing time backing up James McCann but is worth considering for daily fantasy lineups if the matchup is favorable.

Tigers | James McCann resting

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 09:46:03 -0700

Detroit Tigers C James McCann has the day off against Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez Wednesday, April 6. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting in McCann's place and is hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Salty shouldn't be considered at all for daily lineups going up against Fernandez, and the veteran catcher doesn't move the needle much at all in any fantasy formats as Detroit's backup catcher.

Tigers | Detroit could carry three catchers

Sun, 13 Mar 2016 07:18:08 -0700

Detroit Tigers general manager Al Avila said the team could carry three catchers on its 25-man roster to open the season. C James McCann will start and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia was signed to be the No. 2 backstop but C Bryan Holaday's play during spring training could force the club to keep him on their roster. Holaday has gone 9-for-14 with three doubles, three home runs and nine RBIs through his first six exhibition games.

Fantasy Tip: Out of these three, only McCann will see enough playing time to be worth drafting for seasonal leagues. He hit .264 with seven home runs and 41 RBIs in 401 at-bats last year but doesn't hit for enough power to be targeted outside of AL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy formats.

Orioles | BAL interested in Jarrod Saltalamacchia

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 18:05:51 -0800

The Baltimore Orioles are one of several clubs that have expressed interest in free-agent C Jarrod Saltalamacchia (Diamondbacks), according to an industry source. Baltimore could pursue him if C Matt Wieters declines the team's one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer.

Fantasy Tip: Any team that signs Saltalamacchia would only have to pay him the league minimum because the Miami Marlins are on the hook for the bulk of his $7.5 million contract next year. He hit .251 with eight home runs and 23 RBIs in 70 games for the Diamondbacks after being released by Miami early in the season.
