Thu, 24 May 2012 17:25:01 -0700 Chicago Bears WR Brandon Marshall feels he and QB Jay Cutler see the field the same type of way, which helps them during the course of a game when things break down and they are forced to wing it. "We seem to be on the same page when we do that and that's what the great ones do," Marshall said of his connection with his quarterback.
Thu, 24 May 2012 08:58:11 -0700 The Chicago Bears could possibly award QB Jay Cutler a long-term deal before disgruntled franchise free-agent RB Matt Forte. If the Bears budget at least $20 million in guarantees to one offensive back, investing in Cutler is smarter money than Forte. Cutler has two years remaining on a five-year, $50 million extension he signed in 2009.
Thu, 24 May 2012 06:47:01 -0700 Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler appeared to be taking a shot at former offensive coordinator Mike Martz by saying there is more communication with new offensive coordinator Mike Tice and quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates. "There were plays out here today that I told (QB coach Jeremy Bates) I don't like them, let's think about getting rid of them and he's fine with that, and coach (OC Mike) Tice is fine with that," Cutler said. "It's a give and take and that's a breath of fresh air around here, being able to give ideas and everyone giving ideas and let's pick the best ones that work for everybody."
Thu, 24 May 2012 05:54:27 -0700 Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has been impressed with WR Devin Hester during offseaso workouts. Cutler said Hester is having the best camp of the team's receivers thus far.
Tue, 15 May 2012 12:02:13 -0700 Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler expressed optimism that franchise free-agent RB Matt Forte will be on the field in Week 1 whether he gets a long-term extension or not. Forte wasn't happy about being franchise tagged for the 2012 season at $7.7 million or with the fact the team signed RB Michael Bush to a four-year deal.
Mon, 14 May 2012 15:37:13 -0700 Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler said he is going to take a wait-and-see approach before being comfortable with the offensive line in the new offense this season. "You know, the offensive line is definitely going to be a concern and seeing where those guys are going to fit in and seeing what five we go with. If [OT Gabe Carimi] comes back, if [OT J'Marcus Webb] pans out. Where are we going to put [OG Chris Williams]? There are some question marks there. Until we really get that resolved, and get our front five settled in, we've got some work to do on offense," Cutler said. Cutler thinks the new offense will help some but they will still need to protect him on passing plays.
Mon, 14 May 2012 05:52:43 -0700 Chicago Bears quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates said Sunday, May 13, that one of the priorities in the team's offense this season will be to take advantage of QB Jay Cutler's gifts as an athlete and make defenses account for the way Cutler can move. "In my opinion, Jay is very athletic," Bates said. "He was a great shortstop in high school. If you go back and watch the Vanderbilt tape, he was running all around the field making plays. We're going to use his feet. He's athletic, he can throw on the run, he can see down the field on the run. We're going to try to find everybody's strengths and use them to our advantage."
Wed, 11 Apr 2012 12:49:48 -0700 Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler said he does not expect WR Brandon Marshall to be suspended for his involvement in an incident in New York earlier this offseason. Marshall has been accused of striking a woman during the incident.
Mon, 09 Apr 2012 06:10:57 -0700 Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler said he expects the play of the offensive line to be improved in 2012 under new offensive coordinator Mike Tice. "Hope so," Cutler said when he was finished laughing. "It's going to. It will. We're headed in the right direction. I know that."
Tue, 13 Mar 2012 13:34:13 -0700 The Chicago Bears acquiring WR Brandon Marshall immediately addressed the team's need for a physical, big wide receiver capable of making plays. The trade also reunites Marshall with QB Jay Cutler; the two played their first three NFL seasons together with the Denver Broncos.
Thu, 23 Feb 2012 22:59:44 -0800 Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith indicated the team will pursue a backup quarterback during the offseason. QB Nathan Enderle is the only other quarterback under contract besides starter QB Jay Cutler. "We have a lot of options out there. I think this is an attractive place for a quarterback," Smith said. "We're going to look at all people. And I'm talking about (QB Caleb Hanie), (QB Josh McCown) and free agent quarterbacks out there. I just feel like we'll be able to strengthen that position more than we were this past year."

Tue, 07 Feb 2012 10:33:34 -0800 Miami Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall, who is under contract through 2014, said he would enjoy an opportunity to play on the same team as Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler again. Cutler also seems open to the idea.

Fri, 06 Jan 2012 12:45:08 -0800 The Chicago Bears, under new offensive coordinator Mike Tice, are expected to become more of a traditional run-first offense next season. Tice will also stretch opposing defenses with a downfield passing attack they will better utilize QB Jay Cutler's strong arm. The Bears will still hire a "passing coordinator" to replace quarterbacks coach Shane Day, who was fired earlier this week. "Lovie and I share a similar mindset of what the Bears offense should look and feel like," Tice said in a statement. "There will be a toughness about us. We are going to be a powerful run team and we're going to be able to mix in explosive pass plays."

"I wouldn't say it's good or definite or a real possibility, but there's always a chance, but like you said, we have to get this one first." However, a loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15 would all but rule out the shot of that happening. Cutler reportedly threw a ball Sunday, Dec. 11, for the first time since his surgery.

Tue, 22 Nov 2011 07:37:22 -0800 Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) has an unstable fracture of the thumb on his throwing hand, according to a hand surgeon. "Jay Cutler having the surgery now means the bone is broken and shifted or displaced and is not what they call a stable fracture," hand surgeon Mark Cohen said. "It's an unstable fracture. On those you can't wait because they'll heal crooked or won't heal properly. The guy had a significant thumb injury and he's got to have the bone fixed so the bone can heal. He has no choices. The doctors have no choices. This is cut-and-dried." Due to the specific nature of the injury, Cutler may need longer than six weeks to return to the lineup. "It will take the bone four to six weeks to heal and he will need at least a couple of weeks to get his mobility back and be able to grip a football with that thumb even after the six weeks," Cohen said. "I don't know the details of the schedule, but to me the earliest possible return to play for an injury like that is closer to eight weeks."
