Dolphins | Jay Cutler in concussion protocol

Mon, 20 Nov 2017 09:21:35 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler (concussion) is in the concussion protocol Monday, Nov. 20, and that he's still the starter when healthy, according to head coach Adam Gase.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler (or Matt Moore) wouldn't be a good start against the New England Patriots in Week 12. Cutler has QB2 value in double-QB leagues. Monitor his status through the week.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler leaves early

Sun, 19 Nov 2017 11:55:32 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler (head) left the team's Week 11 game early and is being evaluated for a concussion.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Cutler will have go through the concussion protocol. Matt Moore will take over as the starting quarterback as long as Cutler is sidelined but is only a No. 2 fantasy quarterback.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler struggling with deep ball

Tue, 14 Nov 2017 12:34:18 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler is tied for the second worst yards per completion in the NFL (9.0), although he has only played in eight games this year.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler's numbers aren't terrible -- he's thrown 12 touchdowns to six interceptions -- but he has had trouble connecting on the deep ball. He remains a backup fantasy quarterback.

Dolphins | Another multi-TD effort for Jay Cutler

Mon, 13 Nov 2017 22:22:42 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler logged his fourth straight multi-touchdown effort in the team's Week 10 matchup Monday, Nov. 13, against the Carolina Panthers, throwing for a pair of scores and 213 yards on 22-of-37 passing. He also had one interception.

Fantasy Tip: While Miami's offense has mostly been a disappointment this season in Cutler's first year in South Beach, the former first-round draft pick has actually turned it up as of late, totaling nine touchdowns compared to only three interceptions over his last four games. Given the amount of talent he has by his side, it shouldn't be a surprise to see Cutler finally stepping up, and because of that, he's turned into a fine streaming option.

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler (ribs) fully participated in practice Saturday, Nov. 11, and is not on the injury report for Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler recorded 311 yards and three touchdowns in his last game and has thrown seven touchdowns in his last three games. He is not a great fantasy option against the Carolina Panthers but could be a bye-week replacement in deeper leagues.

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler (ribs) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler is on track to play in Week 10 and will look to continue his strong play from Week 9. He is not a must-start option for owners, but he could be a bye-week replacement for owners in deeper leagues.

Thu, 09 Nov 2017 13:48:02 -0800

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler (ribs) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns last week and does not appear to be limited by his injury. He will be facing a decent Carolina Panthers passing defense but can be a bye-week replacement in some deeper leagues.

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler was 34-for-42 for 311 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions against the Oakland Raiders Sunday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: This was by far his best game of the year, and he did so after missing a game due to broken ribs. He'll have a tougher matchup against the Carolina Panthers next week as a bye-week filler.

Sat, 04 Nov 2017 21:13:46 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler (ribs) is expected to start against the Oakland Raiders in Week 9, according to a source.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler questionable

Fri, 03 Nov 2017 12:56:02 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler (ribs) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 3, but is listed as questionable for Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler is expected to start this week and probably will not wear extra padding to protect his injured ribs. He has done four games with less than 200 yards passing and has recorded seven touchdowns and five interceptions in six games. Owners probably have better options available and can avoid Cutler.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler practices in full again

Thu, 02 Nov 2017 15:44:04 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler (ribs) was a full participant at practice for the second day in a row Thursday, Nov. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler is set to return from injury following a one-game absence but given the state of Miami's offense, it's hard to recommend him outside of two-quarterback formats. The Dolphins also no longer have Jay Ajayi anymore, and if that negatively affects the running game as expected, that could also hinder Cutler's outlook in the weeks ahead.

Dolphins | No extra padding for Jay Cutler

Wed, 01 Nov 2017 16:04:57 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler (ribs) said he does not plan to wear any extra padding to protect his injured ribs during the team's Week 9 game.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler likely will regain his starting quarterback job if he is active this week but has not been very successful this season. Owners in all leagues should be able to find better options to use even with six teams on bye.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler expected to play

Wed, 01 Nov 2017 13:56:36 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler (ribs) was able to practice Wednesday, Nov. 1, and he is expected to be ready to play in Week 9 against the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if head coach Adam Gase will make the switch from Matt Moore to Cutler, but after a 40-0 debacle in Baltimore last weekend it is probably pretty likely if Cutler is able to practice in full on Friday. Whomever is under center in Week 9 for the Dolphins faces a tough matchup, and is a low-end QB2 at best in most fantasy leagues.

Thu, 26 Oct 2017 06:45:59 -0700

Dolphins | Jay Cutler a no-go for Week 8

Wed, 25 Oct 2017 09:27:18 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler has been ruled out for Thursday Night Football in Week 8 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Moore will get the start, and it would not be a surprise if the offense doesn't miss a beat or experiences a bit of a jolt because of it. Moore is one of the better backups in the league, and the Dolphins seemed to respond well to him in their Week 7 comeback win against the New York Jets. He's not worth the fantasy start outside of two-quarterback leagues, but owners should feel as good about starting their Miami skill-position players as they normally do.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler to start when healthy

Tue, 24 Oct 2017 06:45:55 -0700

The Miami Dolphins plan to start QB Jay Cutler (ribs) when he returns from his rib injury later in the season. He will miss at least one game, if not more, with cracked ribs.

Fantasy Tip: Although Cutler has struggled, he has the respect of the locker room and was actually doing well in Sunday's game before getting hurt. Still, Cutler's struggles make him no better than a flex option during a regular QB's bye week. Matt Moore won't do too much for your lineup.

Mon, 23 Oct 2017 05:03:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler (ribs) is believed to have suffered two cracked ribs in Week 7 that will keep him out two or three weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Moore figures to fill in, but he doesn't have much merit in fantasy.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler leaves game

Sun, 22 Oct 2017 12:14:03 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler (chest) suffered a chest injury in Week 7 and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check on Cutler's status after the game to see if he will miss multiple weeks because of the injury. Matt Moore would be the starting quarterback if Cutler misses time but would only be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler tosses two TDs

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 13:55:29 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler completed 19 of his 33 pass attempts for 151 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the Week 6 win against the Atlanta Falcons.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler, who was born in Georgia, had his best game of the season in terms of touchdown passes. However, he still has just five TDs and four interceptions through five games. He has a long way to go before he can be relied upon as a fantasy starter on a regular basis. The Dolphins host the Jets in Week 7.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler posts ugly line in win

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 18:43:51 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler completed 12 of his 26 pass attempts for 92 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a 16-10 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler continues to operate one of the worst offenses in the league, and he doesn't even warrant consideration as a QB2 at this point.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler struggles in Week 4

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 09:23:18 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler went 20-for-28 for 164 yards and one interception against the New Orleans Saints in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler played well in the first series of the game but threw an interception in the end zone and never was able to find a rhythm in the passing game during the game. He will be facing a solid Tennessee Titans defense next week should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler has mixed results in Week 3

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 14:01:30 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler threw 26-of-44 for 220 yards with one touchdown and one interception in a 20-6 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday, Sept. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler was ineffective against a team you would think he could feast on. It was a week full of surprises, and this was one of them. Cutler took a bit of a hit with this performance in terms of his rating. He's still a low-end QB1 or high-end QB2 that can turn around in Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler feeling 'really good'

Mon, 28 Aug 2017 21:25:50 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler said that mentally, he feels "really good," and that he also feels "good" physically heading into the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Those thoughts match up with Cutler's solid performance in two preseason games, in which he's completed 7-of-12 passes for 129 yards and one touchdown, though he also has one lost fumble. Still, the 34-year-old has displayed notable potential that could have him in the QB1 conversation by year's end, especially considering the talent he'll be lining up with. Don't be surprised if Cutler shocks his naysayers despite coming out of retirement less than a month ago.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler churns out solid effort

Thu, 24 Aug 2017 17:34:50 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler completed 5-of-8 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in the team's third preseason game Thursday, August 24, against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fantasy Tip: One of those completions was a 72-yard pass to DeVante Parker, whom he's reportedly had good chemistry with already, and another was a touchdown to Miami's new tight end Julius Thomas. Cutler looks like he's fitting in well through his first two preseason contests, and in the process, he's showcasing some fine low-end QB1 potential. For where he's being drafted, the 12-year veteran also isn't a bad idea to stash if you draft a risky quarterback like Andrew Luck.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler shining Monday

Mon, 21 Aug 2017 08:42:37 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler made numerous plays in practice Monday, Aug. 21. Beat writer Omar Kelly opined that Cutler provided clear upgrades from QB Ryan Tannehill in arm strength and pocket presence.

Fantasy Tip: You shouldn't make too much of a single joint practice in August, but what's clear is the possibility that the Dolphins offense has potential. If Cutler can stay healthy, Jarvis Landry could finally see the end zone more than his typical four or five times a year. Cutler is a QB2 in fantasy that probably won't turn a lot of heads on draft day, but in certain matchups, he could be an X-factor.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler works two drives in MIA debut

Thu, 17 Aug 2017 17:21:30 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler made his preseason debut Thursday, August 17, against the Baltimore Ravens, working two drives before being removed from the contest. He completed 3-of-6 passes for 24 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Nothing too special to report from Cutler's debut, though it would have been more eventful had a 31-yard pass to DeVante Parker not been called back due to holding. Additionally, he also had to work through a 3rd-and-27 situation thanks to a pair of holding penalties. The main takeaway, though, was that Cutler targeted Parker four times overall in his limited time on the field. It's still too early to dub him a fine QB1 option in most formats, but the promise is there.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler has chance to play Thursday

Mon, 14 Aug 2017 14:47:09 -0700

Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase said he has not decided if QB Jay Cutler will play in the preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens Thursday, Aug. 17, but is leaning toward playing Cutler.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler probably will receive a few series during the game and will need to work with the first-team offense to prepare for the season. He has had some success in the past and can be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback because he will have weapons to work with on offense.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler hopes to play soon

Tue, 08 Aug 2017 17:28:09 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler said he hopes to play in the second preseason game but said his status will depend on how he feels leading up to the game.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler probably needs a week or two of practice before he is ready to play in a preseason game since he did not participate in any offseason workouts. He has a good understanding of head coach Adam Gase's offense and has a solid group of receivers to work with. Cutler could be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in some leagues.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler is fully recovered

Mon, 07 Aug 2017 11:46:36 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler (shoulder) was medically cleared for his surgically repaired shoulder in March.

Fantasy Tip: It's easy to be excited about a new starting quarterback, but Cutler just had shoulder surgery and is on a new team late in the offseason. Plus, he wasn't that good even when he was healthy and used to his circumstances. He can be avoided for now.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler won't play Thursday

Mon, 07 Aug 2017 08:29:54 -0700

Miami Dolphins QB Jay Cutler won't play in the first preseason game Thursday, Aug. 10.

Dolphins | Miami plucks Jay Cutler to fill QB void

Sun, 06 Aug 2017 10:49:35 -0700

Free-agent QB Jay Cutler (Bears) has reportedly agreed to terms with the Miami Dolphins on an undisclosed contract Sunday, Aug. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Expect reports about Ryan Tannehill undergoing knee surgery shortly. Cutler will put his potential second career as a color analyst for FOX aside for now and join head coach Adam Gase, who served as his offensive coordinator during his most efficient season with the Chicago Bears in 2015. Cutler should be considered the favorite to start over Matt Moore, although the former is probably going to need some time to knock the rust off. Once again, Cutler should be considered a highly unpredictable fantasy QB2.

Dolphins | Miami not close to deal with Jay Cutler

Sat, 05 Aug 2017 07:39:23 -0700

No deal appears imminent between the Miami Dolphins and retired QB Jay Cutler, according to ESPN.com's Josina Anderson, who added that the team had not discussed specific contract numbers with Cutler's representatives.

Fantasy Tip: Dolphins head coach Adam Gase was Cutler's offensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears in 2015, so the 34-year-old veteran wouldn't need much time to get accustomed to the playbook. If he is signed and given the starting job, Cutler would be worth considering as a QB2 in most seasonal fantasy formats, especially given the number of playmakers Miami has on offense.

Dolphins | Miami, Jay Cutler talk possible deal

Fri, 04 Aug 2017 16:23:07 -0700

Retired QB Jay Cutler's representatives have talked with the Miami Dolphins about a possible contract but nothing has been agreed to at this point, according to sources. Cutler is considered the team's top quarterback target.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler has worked with head coach Adam Gase in the past, so there is a chance that he signs with the Dolphins if the two sides can agree to a deal. He would have a solid group of receivers to work with if he joins the Dolphins but struggled with interceptions over the last few years of his career. Cutler probably would be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he starts for Miami this season.

Dolphins | Miami has already contacted Jay Cutler

Fri, 04 Aug 2017 12:19:31 -0700

Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase has been in contact with free-agent QB Jay Cutler (Bears) the last two days in the wake of Ryan Tannehill's potentially season ending knee injury. Gase, who stated he will be talking to a lot of people regarding Tannehill's injury and potential replacements, worked as Cutler's offensive coordinator in 2015 and guided him to the most efficient season of his career before accepting the head-coaching job with Miami.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler, of course, accepted an analyst job with FOX Sports when there were interested suitors following his release in early March, so that is one potential hurdle. Another one would be whether or not Cutler would be interested in competing for the starting job with Matt Moore, or if the Dolphins would even open up such a competition. Expect plenty more updates on this story in the coming days.

Dolphins | Jay Cutler would return for Adam Gase

Thu, 03 Aug 2017 18:19:14 -0700

Retired QB Jay Cutler would be willing to delay the start of his broadcasting career at Fox, according to sources, and return to the National Football League to play under Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase, who was Cutler's offensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears in 2015. Cutler would only consider such a move if he gets the chance to be the full-time starter (and get starter money) for the entire season. The Dolphins have not yet gone down this road, as it is Cutler who has exhibited the initial interest in potentially returning.

Fantasy Tip: This would be an interesting turn of events, as Cutler said as recently as three months ago that his decision to retire was a permanent one. With the Dolphins potentially not having Ryan Tannehill (knee) for a long period of time -- and perhaps the entire season -- they may be desperate, especially after flopping in the playoffs last year when Matt Moore was under center. Considering Miami's strong offense going into the new campaign, Cutler would instantly become a relevant QB option in all leagues if this were to come to fruition.

Fri, 05 May 2017 06:08:27 -0700
